Vancouver 2010 Olympic Traffic Plan Released

  • No Related Post

I know the subject of the 2010 Olympics isn’t directly related to technology, however, it influences many North Americans who plan on visiting Vancouver during this time. Many road closures and traffic routes will be closed during the two week event allowing for buses, athletes, and Olympic officials to be able to travel through the downtown core of British Columbia’s largest city.

The image below shows many of the road closures and alternate routes that will be implemented during the games. The colored lines in this image show where athlete lanes, security closures, venue closures, parking restrictions, etc will be located. As you can see, the crosiers cover all of the city and with 10 Olympic venues within 10 kilometers (6 miles) of the downtown core, Vancouver will be clogged.

The Vancouver transit service (Translink) and other public transit companies will be running services at a maximum. This includes 200 more buses, up to 30 more Skytrain cars (automated train system), and increased ferry service throughout the lower mainland of BC.

These Olympics are expected to be one of the largest events Canada has ever played host to and is surely going to be the biggest Vancouver has seen. This is great for both Vancouver and Seattle tourism as overflow visitors to the Olympics will be traveling to Washington State for cheaper hotel rates.

  • Note: For those of you who are not familiar of when the Olympics will be they will be during the month of February 2010.
