Dual Widescreens Rock

About four weeks ago, I replaced my old, dying 19 inch LCD with a brand spanking new Samsung 20 inch widescreen LCD. I was in heaven! That is, until I started messing around with more and more applications and utilities which forced me to move application windows around.
Well, yesterday I’ve had enough of the “musical chairs” with my desktop. I finally added an additional Samsung 20 inch widescreen LCD (same model, too) How cool! Now, I have a nice and roomy 40 inch desktop to play work with, as you can see in the photograph below.

I “replaced” my 19 monitor with a 204B Samsung. The CRT was dark, and I figured it wouldn’t be long, but I kept both going. Then the CRT cracked once while I was bringing it back from powersave. Not unexpected.
Now I’ve got a 17″ CRT connected. The trouble is that the resolution isn’t as close to the 1600×1200 I have/had. It still works from editing stuff. No more flipping windows around.

I am using dual Samsung 205BW’s. These screens are sharp as a tack, and out of the box they have absolutely no dead/stuck pixels. Set up is a breeze too, thanks to the supplied cables in both standard VGA and DVI (I use DVI). I also like the fact that this monitor doesn’t require a power brick, just use the plain old standard power cable.
With an effective combined dual screen resolution of 3360×1050, I am one happy camper.

I’ve been using a dual monitor config for about a year now. Originally I simply replaced my CRT with a generic brand 19″ LCD. Then I added a 20″ Samsung (thank you, NewEgg.com!). Alas, the Samsung recently went a bit wonky. It’s dark as can be and no amount of tweaks will bring it back. The non-name brand LCD is trucking along, mind you. I doubt I’ll buy another Samsung in spite of the generally good reviews.

Dang. I am sorry you’ve had bad luck with Samsung.

Eh, it happens. ‘Sides, now I can go shopping at the local geek store again. Yippee! I suppose it’s more likely that I’ll go thru NewEgg, but you get the idea.
Anyhow, I’m still not 100% convinced it’s the monitor. It could be a problem with the video card or something in the wiring somewhere.
One last thing…if you’re using dual monitors in games (especially FPS games), the crosshairs fall right into the area where the screens meet. You’re really better going with three monitors…
