After much debate I finally decided to throw caution to the wind and go ahead and attempt to put the firmware mod on my iPod. I wrote about it a few days ago and figured that perhaps it would be helpful if I were to try myself.

The final result…pretty good. I like the look of it and it runs quite well, with the promise of further updates it will only get better. The installation was very quick and painless if you find instructions for it and it all went on well.

I would like to make one thing clear about this though and that is this: This firmware modification is in no way a direct substitute for the actual iPod Classic firmware and shouldn’t be taken as so. It is a very close replication of it but in no way is it exact. With that said I would suggest you try it and see what you think. I will definitely be keeping it, I think its great!

The 4 terabytes only applies to desktop computers though as laptop Hard Drives manufactured by them will have a maximum of 1 terabyte . You will not be able to scoop these up right away as Hitachi is claiming a 2011 release for these. Shrinking down a Hard Drive read write head to 2,000 times smaller then the size of a hair just wasn’t enough for you was it Hitachi? So for those of you running a……..server out of your living room then I guess these would be good for you.

This product has been tracked by many many drooling gadget hounds since August but has taken until now for Asus to officially acknowledge the product and announce it. For those of you unaware this new laptop from asus will cost around $200 and will feature “802.11b/g WiFi, Ethernet and a modem for connectivity, along with a webcam, 512MB of RAM and a 4, 8 or 16GB flash drive for speedy, reliable storage.” Clearly this new PC from Asus isn’t top of the line but for $200 US you just cannot beat it. Love it or hate it……it’s coming. You can expect to see this computer on sale in 2-3 weeks. The official product page can be found here.

Steve Jobs claims, “It’s been very popular with our customers, and we’re making it even more affordable.” while this is true the reality is most likely that he is feeling the burn from such sites as Amazon.com.
Get a Free Audio Book

Are you tired of reading books? Me too. Over the years, I developed pulpuslaceratapohobia - and the only known cure for that is Audible. Finally, a way to digest words without actually having to read them. Professional voices are wonderful choices if you love literary works in audio format. Are you ready to read some audio books? Maybe you should just listen to them instead.

VMware and Parallels for Virtual Machines

It doesn't matter if you're running on Windows or Mac OS X - every power user needs either Parallels or VMware (or both). There's never been an easier way to test software without destroying your primary operating system's stability. Think of how many times you wish you could press a 'reverse' button on your computer. Plus, there's no easier way to try new Linux distributions - see what all the fuss is about. Run Windows in OS X, run Linux in Windows, but the best way to do either is with VMware and/or Parallels.
