Bowling and the Weather

  • No Related Post

I know what you’re thinking, how can the weather and bowling be said in the same sentence?

Well, the fact is…bowling is greatly affected by the weather in several ways. If you don’t understand, I’ll put down a couple of things that can be affected by the weather.

1. The wood (pins, lane, approach) : Humidity affects wood. The wood gets more dense and heavy when the environment is muggy and raw. It’s harder to make good shots in this environment because the pins suddenly become heavy. The lane can expand and contract (unless it’s synthetic) from this moisture and it can make the oil more slick and the ball will just keep sliding and sliding and sliding……. For the approach: Have you noticed that you stick more at the line when it’s raining or it’s a humid day? Well, the approach is very tacky in this weather. Be careful and put some sliding powder on!

2. The body: On a humid day, the body feels heavy and sticky from the air, sometimes you can even feel sick. On a humid day, I suggest taking a nap and only drink water, cold water, during humid weather. Your body will feel energized and invigorated from the cold water. A small sip after every frame usually does the trick. After a game, take a couple good gulps (or maybe burps, too!) and simply relax until your turn…but don’t fall asleep!
