Comcast’s Invasion Of Privacy

  • No Related Post

Its two in the morning and I am sitting here really and truly pissed off. My family and I have had Comcast for years, it wasn’t bad till I really starting hitting the web (blogging, up/downloading, streaming, etc…) so of course we had a cap placed on us and on it went. Instead of my parents doing the smart thing and running for Comcast, they decided to stick with it seeing as how I now am off the home network while I am in college.

But today I was looking over the RSS feed reader and I saw a link for comcast and its surveillence. I clicked and now I am about to run home and rip comcast out of the house. The reason? these lovely stats:

According to the information, Comcast keeps logs for up to 180 days on IP address allocation, and they do not keep all of your e-mails forever (45 days at most). VoIP phone records are stored for 2 years, and cable records can only be retrieved upon a court order.

Hmmm..holy crap can some one say invasion of privacy?! So yeah I really don’t like the fact that my data (or more likely my parents) is being stored for so long.

I am sure that people will say that if I don’t do anything illegal why should I care? Well, a lot of that stuff could lead to identity theft if any of the stuff was hacked into (and we all know about security in big companies). So…hmmmm…I’ll need to forward this to my parents and see what they have to say
