Would You Like Wi-Fi With That?

Wi-Fi is invading restaurants across the world; first we had Starbucks offering Wi-Fi, then others jumped on the band wagon, from other coffee shops all the way down to that Greasy American Classic McDonald’s. While the US is still stuck with pay as you go Wi-Fi in McDonald’s, the UK is set to have all 1,200 McDonald’s outlets equipped with free Wi-Fi. The move is in hopes of attracting a more sophisticated crowd that would usually pass over the calorie laden burgers and fries.
From my perspective, this is a savvy business decision, because I know if I am on the road and I only have a choice of fast food for a meal I would more likely go to a place with Wi-Fi, and make the meal productive (sad that we even work on breaks) rather than sit there and eat the dinner thinking about all the calories from the Big Mac. I have used the Wi-Fi at McDonald’s before, but don’t enjoy using it because you pay by the hour (or at least I had to) and it makes no sense to pay for a whole hour when I would be using 10-20 minutes at the most. Kudos to McDonald’s for the free Internet; now if they would import it over here.
