Ice on Mars

Earlier this week the Phoenix Mars Lander began digging into the Martian landscape. After a few scoops of Martian soil it came upon something in the soil. And now after observing the stuff for four days, the Scientists have declared that the substance is water ice. Good old H2O discovered on another planet. Why such a big deal you many ask. It’s a big deal because life on earth only exists because of water. And having water ice trapped under the surface of Mars means that humans can survive on the surface of another planet.
I have been skeptical about the existence of water on Mars all of my life. It has always been something that was unprovable for a long time. Ever since Galileo started drawing pictures of the Red Planet, humans have dreamed of discovering the mysteries of Mars, myself included. And now one of the biggest clues to the history of Mars has been discovered. Did life or can life exists on Mars. And where there is water there is life.
With our ability to send out probes to other planets and sample the atmosphere and terrain, it won’t be much longer until we have a science station based on Mars. I never would have thought that water would been discovered on Mars in my lifetime. Clearly the first step for humans to live on the Red Planet.
