Firefox is Vulnerable

This is one of the many reasons why I don’t use Firefox. This vulnerability has been around since 2006. Affecting versions 2.0.0.x and up. So if you are one of the lucky millions that now have a gateway into your system, I would advise you to use something other than Firefox. I haven’t used Firefox as my everyday, normal use, browser since version 1.x. I only use it now to check the layout of websites. And with reports that the WicketPixie theme is showing some malformation in FF3 I will probably have to use it soon.

What were they thinking. Releasing this version to more the 8 million people. I suspect this was only a ploy to gain market share. And it sounds like something some other software developers and companies would do. I’m all for competition and free applications that make using the computer and the internet an enjoyable pastime. But releasing something without the proper quality control and simple security testing leaves me wondering where their allegiances truly lie. Are they with the computer users or with their own desire for market share.

Well Mozilla/Firefox, you have the record for distributing a vulnerable application to millions of people. Way to go.

And for the record, my everyday browser, is Netscape. Long live the Navigator!!

“The Firefox Web Browser is the faster, more secure, and fully customizable way to surf the web.” Oh please.

you say that Firefox is vulnerable and you use Netscape. Firefox is based on the old discontinued Netscape. That means that the most of the bugs in Firefox are in Netscape also. Who to report bugs when they can’t be fixed by someone in Netscape. Alternative: Opera.

Netscape does not have the bug in question. It’s exclusive to Firefox and it’s “developers”.

During the bedlam of lockergnome.com, Marks asked why I didn’t disclose the nature of the bug. The bug hasn’t been disclosed to public and shouldn’t be until it’s fixed. And even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you until after public disclosure. That’s just the nature of the beast.

Um, well, um, well, most people who use FireFox as their everyday browser seem to be enjoying it, let alone the elusive “bug” that some website disclosed after the 3x release, so why were they not screaming this at the 2 launch? If it’s such a big bug, then why do most Linux Distro’s come with it, pre-installed? Why not use Opera? Or so out-dated Netscape (which has been replaced by both FireFox and Gecko..)it’s like using IE and who wants that? If the bug is as bad as you say, then what about the OS your using, Windows Vulnerable no matter how many updates and patches you do, and think Microsoft own the record btw :)

First of all, Netscape isn’t outdated, just unsupported. Second, the bug does not affect the Linux versions. Third IE7 is mandatory for some sites. Fourth, I didn;t say anything about the seriousness of the bug, tippingpoint did, I only relayed the message. I could go on about MS and windows, but this is about Firefox.

Exactly, it’s not that big of a bug, thank you :) Don’t tell people they shouldn’t use it because it opens the entire i-net to your desktop, which it doesn’t. Maybe next time in your post you should clarify who it affects, eg…Windows only….still a good post, and I’ve never had a site that I could not use FireFox on, even windows update, cough, cough….“The Firefox Web Browser is the faster, more secure, and fully customizable way to surf the web.” , yes it is, considering the alternatives, the only one even close is Opera (which is damn good), and Safari is way buggy and IE, well it’s IE :)
