The unveiling of AMD Home Cinema formerly know as “Maui” has occurred at Computex 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan. This little jewel aims to enter the home entertainment market. Jay from the Technology Group tells us about the 780 chipset with the Quad-core 9500. The audio purports to have 106db S/N ratio and the system has a low 28db fan noise. The problem with most “entertainment” systems is the lack quality audio and noisy boxes that this unit addresses. The unit should be in production later this month with test units out in a couple weeks.

We haven’t heard much from AMD and ATI since the merger. I hope this is the dawn of a new age of competition for nVidia and Intel. And we like competition.
