And Then There Was Vista

I am truly, utterly sick and tired of people arguing over who copied who between OS X and Vista. Sure, originality can be a good thing, and sometimes it is nice to have something new that’s never been done before. I admit, I really can’t talk much about either of these operating systems as I haven’t used either in depth, but all this fighting over which made the ideas is lame. I don’t care if it’s Widgets vs. Gadgets, or any other similarities between OS X components and their respective versions on Vista.
What matters to me is who executed the idea better? Does it really matter to the end user who came up with the idea first? No. Does it matter to the end user which company does it better? YES!
Give it up guys. I agree with David Pogue when he says “All this complaining is just sour grapes from the Apple fans.”

Gosh this is dumb…
If you are discussing which OS is better, then yes, this is an extremely silly discussion (who came up with what first). No one can argue that.
But, if you are arguing who is the better innovator, then sure, this discussion makes sense. It might not mean much to some, but hell, a lot of stuff mean nothing to me either. Big deal…
Mac users just like to point these things out because they are the underdog and do not think they should be. They feel they have a better OS for most people (I happen to agree with that), and that if more people knew about these things that the Mac has had for years, are now being copied in Vista and not as well, that they could get more converts. They want more converts for two reasons. One, they simply think it’s better and want others to know about it, and two, if their market share grows they will have more developers contributing to their choice of OS.
I’m sorry, but your little blurb here is a half second rant about nothing.

“Does it really matter to the end user who came up with the idea first?”
Yes. If one company does it more often then the other, then yes, it would in fact mean a better end user experience for the one that did it more often.

Think of it this was. Here in the U.S if another country builds a nicer car… we drive it… if they have a good food we eat it… if they find a better way to do things we might end up doing it that way. I think that was all in a Micheal Moore movie I saw.
But seriously… OS X has taken a few ideas from Windows Vista I’m sure and Windows Vista has taken ideas from OS X for sure… but in the end…
Does it really matter? Who cares who copied who… if you’re a OS X user you may like a feature originally from Windows therefor you now like OS X even more and in Windows Vista you may like the new gadgets, which was an idea from OS X no doubt but hey don’t you like Windows more now? Assuming you like widgets/gadgets.
They all copy each other, its not an argument but a fact. OS X even took an idea from Linux/Unix which is Virtual Desktops or “Spaces”.
To the end users of this operating system or that operating system stop whining and fighting. It is old… Personally I’m a Windows guy myself. I like Vista and I like gadgets.. I don’t care if OS X came up with the idea of widgets/gadgets.. I don’t care if Microsoft copied a OS X idea… they copied it for people like me who like them. Everything Apple and Microsoft does to their Operating Systems they try to do it for you.. so why complain and fight?
