Gmail to Reach 3 gb by October, ‘07

I was bored today, and being an avid Gmail user, I thought I’d do a little math. It seems like we’ve been waiting for 3 gb for a long time now, so I figured I’d figure out how long it would take. Taking a random sample of how much space we gain in 15 seconds (roughly 0.000013 mb / second or 1 mb in 976 minutes). Knowing we have ~ 237 mb left to go (3071 - 2836), we can use the following equation to determine how long it will take:
t = 237 * 976

Where t is the time needed to reach 3 gb. Following this equation tells us that we need ~ 231312 minutes or 3855 hours or 161.625 days to get to 3 gb of mail space. Therefore, we can expect to have 3 gb of space by a little more then halfway through September, 2007. Or, if Google’s servers survive and continue to give us more space at the present rate, we can expect to reach the holy grail of 1 tb of email space in ~ 1901.5 years. I’m not going to hold my breath.
