Put Your Hands Toegther And Clap – Apple Finally Drops ‘I’m A Mac’ Ads

Posted by on May 25, 2010 | 13 Comments

The PR people at Apple may finally have stumbled on something the rest of us already knew. Those ‘I’m A Mac’ ads did little to convert PC users over to using the Mac. In fact, if anything happened, I believe they actually cemented us PC users who knew the real truth. The PC is just as good, if not better, than anything Apple produces. Plus the PC is priced right and consumers are not being gouged.

[Ron runs for cover as the Apple crowd starts to throw bricks at his head, LOL]

On a serious note, did anyone dump their PC for a Mac because of these ads? Let us know.

Comments welcome.

Oh happy day. I’d faint if they admitted that Macs are PCs.

Yeah I dropped my PC for a Mac (and not because of the ads lol). Last month my boyfriend and I got new laptops. I got the new 15 inch (April 2010) Macbook Pro and I love it. It worked like a dream right out of the box. He got the M17 by Alienware. With in the first day it was slow and at times unresponsive. Its a great computer for gaming, but windows isn’t my cup of tea. He mainly wanted a gaming laptop and I wanted a little of everything. I like his but since I went Mac, I’m never going PC again! And this is coming from someone who was “anti-Mac” last year. I thought that a Mac was all hype and it was nothing but a waste of money, but truly its not. It’s beautiful, fast, clean, more eco-friendly than most PCs. It’s a work of art. Everything about the mac is so smooth… I highly recommend a Mac for those who are sick of pc bs. It’s like a iPad. Once you start using it you’ll fall in love with its simplicity. – T

It may not have convinced people to buy a mac computer but the ads were pretty entertaining

I have to admit I actually enjoyed those ads. Although, even after leaving some pretty negative comments on other posts you’ve made, I have to say I 100% agree with you about PC’s being just as good as mac’s. I’ll never trade my PC for a mac.

I thought some of those ads were pretty good, too–just not good enough to make me switch. Over time, they started looking more like political attack ads.

I think it’s funny that most of those commercials seemed to be targeted at less tech-savvy computer laymans. More stable or not, there’s no point paying nearly twice as much for a computer “just to check e-mail.” If these people actually did buy a Mac, they’d probably be like “why doesn’t this look like my computer at work?” or “where’s Minesweeper?”

I’ll admit, I drank the koolaid and was swayed by the commercials. Nearly everything that the commercials portrayed by the PC were problems I experienced on a regular basis (or was fixing on some user’s PC). But it took more than the commercials to convince me. I WORK in the IT field; surrounded by PC’s. I had finally had enough and after many conversations and questions to a close friend of technical saavy, I took the leap to Mac.

I LOVE my Macbook. I never once said, “I love my PC”. I still have my work-issued Dell laptop with Windows, but I never use it. I’m not only an IT professional, but also a business owner, web designer, and professional musician. I use my Macbook for all of these tasks and it works without a hitch and has a “natural fluidity” to it.

I’ll give MS props for Windows 7. It is finally a step in the right direction. I use my Win7 laptop to play Pandora through; so its basically a jukebox. Maybe THAT’s why I haven’t had any problems with it recently.

Hi, I’m a Mac and I’ll never go back :)

      Thanks Kevin.
Oh…………….I run Windows 7 and I love my PC! LOL

I never understood the “I’m a Mac” ads. But that’s because of my terrible experience with Mac. To this day every Mac I come in contact with crashes.

A friend bought the new MacBook Pro, they were having problems with their iPod giving an error when synching with iTunes and asked me to look at it, crashed the moment they set it down in front of me. I think I send out Anit-Mac waves or something. I told them to just plug the iPod in before starting iTunes and that worked….I just couldn’t be anywhere near the computer.

To any Mac fans, I’m not saying Macs are bad computers. I’m saying I’ve never experienced the “Mac experience” as proclaimed by these ads and the people around me.

My girlfriend ended up getting a MacBook: not because of the commercials, but many of her friends had them and were singing their praises (not to mention, MacBooks are prettier).

I use her Mac every once in a while, and it really isn’t a bad system in my experience. I had to do a bit of hunting around to figure out how to do some things in Mac that I can do in Windows with a hand tied behind my back–which goes back to my thoughts of marketing them to “dumb people.” To play the devil’s advocate, of course, the same learning curve is required with every new version of Windows.

I still don’t feel compelled to buy a Mac of my own anytime soon. And I would NEVER trade Office for iWork! :-P

7 out of 10 times, my girlfriend still uses my laptop with Vista.

    1) These ads rarely actually presented an actual point.

    2) It’s about time they stopped them.

  • Gibson
