What Others Know About You And What You Should Know About Yourself

Posted by on Mar 1, 2010 | 14 Comments

Every once in a while I stumble on an article that is too good not to share with all of you who read this blog. So today when I read this over at The Consumerist, I thought I would pass this on. Basically what The Consumerist has done is to list Web sites that provide information about us that others know about us. This is information that we need to know, especially if there are errors about our past history that need to be corrected. Some of those that are listed can be completed online, while others you need to mail in with a copy of your ID and also a utility bill [each site may be different] by which to identify yourself.

Here is what The Consumerist has posted:

Complete anonymity is best. Too often, people get themselves into trouble, when all they had to do was remain silent.

Ron, thanks for posting on such an important topic. I’ve better working in the Reputation Management industry for over 5 years — everything from web-based reference checking to social media monitoring and see clients time & again, shocked to discover what others have access to.

The company I work for helps brands but on a personal level, I personally use and recommend a company called Crederity (www.crederity.com).

    Here’s why:
    1. Do a full background check on yourself – this way, no surprises – you know what everyone else e.g. employers, know.
    2. Once you’ve gone through the verification process, you know have 3rd party verification of your credentials.
    3. You are able to pick and choose what sections you want to share with others. e.g. A potential client wants to confirm that you really earned a degree, certification, award, etc. …You can give him/her temporary access to the credentials section of your report. What you make public or protect is up to you.

    Thanks Again!

As simple as modifying the installer? I doubt it. Even if you got it installed, you’d still have to fix the crashing when it tries to access hardware and software libraries that don’t exist.

Megabit’s is Mbps, not MB/S which is MegaByte’s per secound. MegaByte is 8 time’s BIGGER than a smaller Megabit.
