It is now official. Barbie, by popular vote, is going to have a new career. In fact, it will be the 126th career change Barbie has had during the past 50 years or so that she has been around. This time Barbie is going to be a 100% certified geek, complete with laptop computer. Yes, the laptop is in pink. No other color would do when it comes to a Barbie accessory.

Anything that encourages geeky, mathy girls this way has to be a good thing, right? Nora Lin, President, Society of Women Engineers, seems to agree. She’s quoted in the press release: “All the girls who imagine their futures through Barbie will learn that engineers — like girls — are free to explore infinite possibilities, limited only by their imagination.”
