Google Chrome Browser – Time To Make The Switch?

I have been a Mozilla Firefox user for about 6 years or more and I have come to trust Firefox over I.E. But I have also been testing Google Chrome for about 9 months. The main reason I have not made a change was that Google Chrome lacked some of the extensions that I use in Firefox. During my testing of Chrome, I really liked the speed of Chrome. It is fast, extremely fast. Pages pop up on my screen in milliseconds and switching between tabs is also fast.

But the one thing that is making Google Chrome more and more attractive is that there are now over 2,200 extensions that increase the functionality of the browser. I have been going through the list of extensions and have added some of the ones I like to the browser.

Before I go on and tell you how wonderful Chrome is, let there be no mistake that Mozilla Firefox is still my favorite. For those of us who use Firefox it is like an old comfortable pair of shoes. The fit is right and you enjoy how the shoes make your feet feel. With that being said, if you use and enjoy Firefox stick with it.

However, if you are looking to try something new, give Google Chrome a try. Now that there are a boat load of extensions, it has improved on the browser experience from when Chrome was just a plain Jane browser with no available extensions.

I am personally hoping that the Colorful Tabs extension becomes available for Chrome since I enjoy using this add on in Firefox.

You can download a copy of Google Chrome from here.

What? No Opera love? If you’re looking for speed, keep an eye on Opera 10.50. The boys at Betanews seem transfixed by the speed wars, and currently the Opera 10.50 alpha is the champ. I’m using Opera 10.1, not as fast, but I like its features, and SRWare’s Iron, which comes from Chrome, minus the phone home features.

I am finding that the extensions generally work well for Chrome, once you find the best of breed – there is lots of replication. I am disappointed by the Opera widget availability, but since Opera has so much more innate functionality, it’s not quite so bad.

Ron, have you tried Firefox 3.6? It’s MUCH faster and less buggy (as in no bugs over the last week) than 3.5, and can handle most 3.5 add-ons. I think one of my add-ons didn’t work after the upgrade, and that add-on was one of the browser patches that was superseded in 3.6.

I have to say I haven’t tried Opera or Google Chrome. Does Adblock Plus or something similar work with these browsers? We hates the popups and spam, we does…

I have tied google Chrome i dont like the layout its missing someting.. but ye i agree its fast and cool, the Ad-block is good and not as detectable as the firefox one. one site i visit is narutowire.com and when i try and watch a movie in FF it says im useing a Ad blocking program, but i can watch it with Chrome. so thats why im useing chrome.

I was a diehard firefox fan until the first time I opened Chrome. After that there was no turning back. What can I say? Google makes good shit. The javascript engine in 1.x was buggy and SVG support wasn’t too hot, but in 9 months they’ve done more than Firefox, Safari, or Opera has done over the course of several years (and everything those browsers have done that Microsoft still hasn’t figured out as of IE8). I still use Firefox for development, nothing beats Firebug and the plethora of great web development extensions available on it, but Chrome is my browser of choice for general use.
