Beautiful People Site Kicks Out Over Weight Members

Posted by on Jan 4, 2010 | 3 Comments

Over at BeautifulPeople.com, they don’t want any over weight people as members. It seems that some 5,000 members were expelled from the site after putting on weight during the holidays. I bet you have the same question that I had. How did they know that those members put on the pounds? It seems that they posted their photo’s showing the recent weight gain and other members tagged them for expulsion. It seems that the web site is policed by its members and they do not take kindly to the chubby folks.

According to one article it also stated that:

“As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld,” site founder Robert Hintze told the BBC. “Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded.”

What is Beautiful People exactly? Let the site tell you:

BeautifulPeople.com is an exclusively beautiful community, founded for the purpose of creating personal and professional relationships.

BeautifulPeople has been described as an “elite online club, where every member works the door.”

BeautifulPeople is the first community of its kind. To become a member, applicants are required to be voted in by existing members of the opposite sex. Members rate all new applicants over a 48 hour period based on whether or not they find the applicant ‘beautiful’. Should applicants secure enough positive votes from members, they will be granted a full membership to the BeautifulPeople Network.

The vote is fair and democratic. BeautifulPeople does not define beauty it simply gives an accurate representation of what society’s ideal of beauty is. Applicants can upload a complimentary profile. They are able contact members while being rated thereby giving insight into the character behind the appearance.

BeautifulPeople simply removes the ‘first hurdle’ as every member is exactly that; ‘Beautiful’ as deemed so by their peers.

I have no personal comment to make. I just thought I would share this with those that read my stuff.

I just don’t see why i should care about this at all. If they want to pat each other on the back for being “beautiful”, good luck with that. I wouldn’t expect any insightful conversation from a place that places importance on looks above all else.

There is now a facebook group that was started a couple of days ago for Beautiful People rejects……… anyone can join, its open for comment. People can join beautifulpeople.com and maybe they will be rejected for not being ‘beautiful’. should be a bit of fun.
