Fake Steve Job’s Protest Against AT&T Could Endanger Public Safety

When I first read about the protest being organized by the Fake Steve Jobs against AT&T, I never gave much thought on how this stunt could endanger public safety. By jamming the AT&T network with false traffic, someone who needs to make an emergency call may not get a connection.

In another article a spokesperson for the FCC stated:

“Threats of this nature are serious and we caution the public to use common sense and good judgment when accessing the Internet from their commercial mobile devices,” Jamie Barnett, chief of FCC’s public safety and homeland security bureau, said in a statement. “To purposely try to disrupt or negatively impact a network with ill-intent is irresponsible and presents a significant public safety concern.”

One must also examine the real reason for starting the protest. Was it really designed to be an attack on AT&T or is it a stunt to drum up web traffic to the Fake Steve Jobs site? I don’t know the answer to this question. Only the Fake Steve Job does.

But I do know this. This is a poor idea and the Fake Steve Jobs should scrap the idea.

What do you think?

i don’t own an Iphone, but i remember this from commercials on TV about ATT&T’s network. You can use the phone to surf the net as well as take calls. My understanding is that the 2 are seperate entities and flooding the ATT data network wouldn’t affect making calls. correct me if I’m wrong…
