Why Is Popeye On The Google Homepage?

Google has a picture of Popeye The Sailor Man on its home page. Also there is a can of spinach, which Popeye ate religiously. Here is the reason Popeye is being featured by Google.

Today is the birthday of Popeye creator E.C. Segar, born 115 years ago.

Segar was a newspaper cartoonist, and Popeye was first seen in Segar’s comic strip “Thimble Theater,” starring the sailor, his rail-thin girlfriend Olive Oyl, her brother Castor Oyl, and, eventually, their hamburger-munching pal Wimpy, and Popeye’s rival for Olive, the hulking Bluto.

Were Popeye cartoons violent? Sure they were. But nobody really took these cartoons seriously. Just like not everyone would eat their spinach. LOL

I watched Popeye as a child, and yes, I ate, and still eat lots of spinach. You should see my forearms. Happy Birthday Mr. Segar, wherever you are.

Buffet – I watched Popeye as well.

    ‘You should see my forearms’

    Thanks for the chuckle.
