Windows 7 – What Has Your Experience Been Thus Far?

Posted by on Dec 1, 2009 | 10 Comments

It is hard to believe that it has been almost 4 months [minus a few days] since Microsoft released Windows 7 RTM for those with MSDN or Technet subscriptions. Having a subscription to Technet has allowed me the opportunity to try all versions of Windows 7 including Starter, Basic, Home, Professional and Ultimate. I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate on three of my home based computers and will be installing Basic on an older laptop computer.

So let me share my personal experience with the new operating system. I am a convert and have been enjoying the new operating system. I have also installed Microsoft Office 2007 on all of my systems and have been enjoying it as well. I must say that all of the changes in both Windows 7 and Office 2007, took some time to learn, but once I did I have noticed an improvement in the feel for both products. When I say I had to relearn both the OS and Office I should mention that neither required anything complex. It basically was stuff in a different location.

Aesthetically both Windows 7 and Office 2007 are very pretty. I know, I know. Being pretty doesn’t accomplish anything as far as work in concerned but none the less it is eye pleasing when you spend a lot of time on a computer system. As I have stated before it is the ‘feel’ of a system that to me is most important. This is where Windows 7 and Office 2007 both shine. I love the feel of both.

But what about you? What has your experience been using Windows 7?

What do you like or dislike about the new OS ?

Comments welcome.

I’ve had a view problems from it. If you have read any of my last posts here on Lockergnome, you would see why, and that I got them resolved by doing a second clean install.

When WIndows 7 works, it’s absolutely great! I’m loving the features/looks/taskbar a lot more then I did Vista or XP. So overall, great os.

I am glad to hear that someone else has had a positive experience with Office 2007. Yes, it took me time to find some things, but now I get frustrated when I am helping a user who is still using Office 2003.

My Windows 7 experience has been great. I made the mistake of not backing up my pst file for outlook but that was my fault. Everything has been great. I am glad I upgraded.

    Hi Scott,
    I’m glad I upgraded as well. :-)

I had almost given up on Windows and switched to Mac until I got my hands on Windows 7. I see no reason to migrate to OSX now. It’s a great OS but Windows 7 is as well, absolutely amazing, wish they didn’t have to drop Vista first.

Great! Its superfast. The search function loaded to start menu and in outlook is very fast. Lot of integration and userfriendliness around basic programs makes it fantastic. Love it so far.

Guess I’ll have to join the chorus with accolades also Ron. My version is Home Premium which I bought last summer at the Microsoft Store (huge discount, remember?). Opted for the upgrade installation over clean, and had absolutely no problems. I did do an Acronis backup BEFORE the installation “just in case” LOL. Also purchased (again, deep discount) the Student/Home version of Office 2007. Once I got the hang of where/how things worked, I also concur that it’s a joy to use. I don’t use OUTLOOK, so didn’t opt for the higher priced versions. What’s especially neat in Windows 7 is setting up my icons on the toolbar. “Tag” is so much easier that drag/drop! Bootup and shutdowns are so much faster than Vista! Very happy with it Ron.

    Hello Don,
Thanks for chiming in and for sharing your experience. I just mentioned again last night to my wife how much I was enjoying using Office 2007, something I didn’t think I would be doing.

as a blind reader, I’d love to use windows 7, but blind folks can’t use it!
It has no lists, no folder views, no start menu, so, the blind can’t use it.
Microsoft hasn’t listened to my concerns before As far as Windows 7 is concerned, as a blind reader, I’d a
