Tronix Country – Another BlueHippo? You Decide

Posted by on Nov 22, 2009 | 51 Comments

This morning, Sunday November 22, 2009, I was watching CNN when an advertisement for Tronix Country caught my attention. The advertisement offered for those without credit or bad credit, a simple financing program to help them get a new computer or other electronic products. The plan as stated on the tube involved sending in $29.95 a week to Tronix Country to establish a credit paying history and after which you get the new computer or other electronic products.

Hold on. This sounds very familiar and reminded me of BlueHippo. I have previously written about BlueHippo and the problems they have had with the Federal Trade Commission. [Articles are here and here] So after a little checking I learned from a Wikipedia search that:

Cofounder Bruce E. Mattare left the company [Blue Hippo] in 2004 to start Tronix Country, which has offered merchandise with installment terms similar in scope to BlueHippo.

So I went to the web site of Tronix Country and found the following information about the company:

You should know that what Tronix Country does is provide financing and credit bureau reporting for people to make a computer purchase. We provide a service for individuals who either don’t have the money to make a purchase outright or do not have sufficient credit for a lender to give them a loan. We simply provide an alternative.

There is also this:

Because we know our prices are higher, we focus on two areas where the low cost retailer doesn’t or cannot: Service and Credit Reporting.

Plus this statement:

While we realize a lot of people are skeptical about Tronix Country, the fact is they have every right to be. A lot of terrible damage has been done to good, hard working people by other companies that serve the same people we do.

I personally have had no dealings with Tronix Country. What about you? Share your experience with us.

Comments welcome.

Oh no! Not once, not twice! The same Founder of Blue Hippo left the company, because they knew that there was dozens of complaints regarding the misleading practices the company was doing and complaints where placed with both The FTC and BBB. Besides, why financing a cheap cost computer while paying 4 times the actual value of the PC? If you want to finance the PC, do it with a well known computer maker like Dell. If Credit is a problem, simply use the lay-away plan or just save some money and buy cheap from retailers like Wal-Mart or CompUSA (Tiger Direct) to name a few. But, the idea of using a financing service for a cheap item is not an alternative. If you need financing, go to your local bank and ask for a saving account that will give you a credit line for a credit card.

I posted about this before, and sure enough the scammers, that ran Blue Hippo are at it again using a different name This is the stupid thing about some of our laws. In my state all the scammer had to do is change his buisness name and hang a new shingle at a different address. Sometimes flagrantly moving in a unit next door to the “old” one. There is a “legitimate” company called Rent A Center that deals with people of a “Pay Day” loan mentality. These people are always falling for easy terms (more like sleazy) in which there are plenty of people out there willing exploit them. There’s money in those poor people’s pockets in the form of a legalized loan shark scam. Lawyers, however have enough sense not to sue poor people, so if you can’t do the terms and are threatened with legal action, laugh and hang up. Don’t worry about them as they have plenty of money to take it in the chin from previous poor suckers. Why would anyone pay good money for a garbage system they could get for four times less, given terms your local loan shark would envy? Just remember the old adage “If it’s too good to be true, it usually is.” The too few legitimate deals you may pass up will pale to the ones you don’t go for. So don’t think of that as a loss, it was probably a gain in the long run

I work for Tronix Country and can tell you we try very hard to help people. We are not Blue Hippo and just because someone else used to work for another company does not mean we are the same company. We have a lot of repeat customer and I would NEVER be part of a company that takes advantage of people. Tronix Country is a good place to work and treats its employees and customers well. r34dm4n, if you received your computer then you will get your TV and other products– I know they will, we send hundreds out each week.

  • http://wp3.lockergnome.com/nexus/blade/ Ron Schenone

DC20009 – thanks for the heads up. It is good to know that your company is not another BlueHippo. All the best in your business endeavors.

  • ex tronix employee

I worked at a call center for tronix country….We tell people we’re located in Virginia when we are really located in Connecticut….Why, you ask???? Because it’s a huge scam and we don’t want you to know where we are cause people get REALLY mad when they get ripped off….Imagine that??…Give them a call and ask them how much the computer is right off the bat….they will refuse to tell you and say in exact words “the prices vary depending on the package that you pick, I’d be happy to go over the whole program with you”….When really the prices don’t vary at all, there is a desktop and a laptop and they are both the cheapest Dells that you can buy at any given time. In fact we will get fired if we tell you the price before we tell you all of the specs of the computer and describe the program….TRUE story.. AND…..Just so you are all aware, when you ask us the final price….we are gonna read some rebuttal that starts off “I think you’d be happy to discover that the price is right about in the middle of the pack for a brand new brand name desktop/laptop computer…..BUT the truth is that we aren’t giving you the real price there either….And we never will during the whole conversation…OH…AND I almost forgot…The so called free shit you are getting, the printer, t.v, digi cam, MP4 player, and $250 worth of software (which is really just a disc with programs that you already have on your computer)…Are the crappiest pieces of junk you can imagine…Meaning they aren’t name brand or anything and you don’t get them till you pay off your computer anyway. So really they aren’t free, you are paying for them seeing that you are paying about $2000 for a crappy desktop computer. Don’t feel bad they treat their employees like crap too… We have to sell computers to 15% of the people that call us all week to make comission which is $3 dollars per computer that you sell… So translation….you never make commision you always ALMOST get it….Why??? because the bosses tweak the numbers to make sure they don’t have to pay you….Anyway….Make sure you don’t swear at the cust. service reps cause then they can make sure the call doesnt count against them….. TAKE IT FROM AN EX EMPLOYEE THIS IS A SCAM OF THE HIGHEST ORDER!!!!! DON’T DO IT PEOPLE!!!! WE ARE GONNA TAKE MORE MONEY THEN WE SAY WE WILL….AND THAT’S A PROMISE. Also….They will tell you that you have 7 days to cancel from the day you order and they are gonna push that on you so you buy it but the truth is the customer service line is gonna tell you that your order hasn’t been processed yet so that you go over the 7 day “grace period” and have to pay the $99 activation payment. DON”T DO IT!!!!

  • the dum ass that looked in to tronix

I have been making payments to tronix for six months now and still have not recieved my dell desk top computer that they said we would have after 5 consecutive payments. How does 5 payments turn into six months of waiting?

  • DC20009

To the “Ex-Tronix Country Employee”–if you worked at the Call Center in CT, then you were NEVER an employee of Tronix Country. Like many businesses, Tronix Country contracts out services. Just as when you Contact Dell, they will tell you they are located in Texas, not India, Call Centers under contract with Tronix Country are obligated to tell customers where the company is located– which is in Springfield VA. (All contact information is located on our website http://www.tronixcountry.com)
As “ex-employee” never worked for Tronix Country, they should be fair about this and further it appears that their problem lies with the call center they worked for–not Tronix Country. I know first hand that over-aggressive tactics at a call center are not tolerated and have witnessed managers firing call center representatives on the spot for these practices. Call center representatives that do not follow proper policies and procedures create problems for Tronix Country customer service and it “ex-employee” might fit into this category.
As for the “dum ass” if you have not received your merchandise after six months, you should contact Tronix Country at info@tronixcountry.com. We are happy to work with you.

  • http://basiclife.com Damon Talbert

It takes 4 to 5 months of 30.00 payments before you get your computer plus a 100.00 set up fee. That’s a little over $600.00 to $740.00 for a computer that sells for under $400.00 at Walmart. Not much to figure out about this offer. Don’t forget, after you send them the $700.00 plus you still owe them $900,00 more. For a $400.00 computer, you got to joking.

  • http://na Ed Ellis

The one thing no one mentioned is; the computers Tronix Country is selling are older outdated Dell computers.
With the pace of technology today, the Tronix Country computers are obsolete 2 seconds into the commercial.

I’ve always told my children, if you don’t have the cash and you can’t lay it away, then you don’t need it.
Be patient, save you money, then get what you want.

  • Dee

I personal find that Tronix is an exact carbon copy of Blue hippo. The computers/products they offer are out of date and overly priced. I saved my money and went t OFFICE DEPOT and bout my Notebook for half of what they’re asking for for there computers on there website. They dont even specify what name brand computers they are selling. BUYER’S BEWARE, CONSULT WITH A COMPUTER EXPERT OR SOMEONE WHO IS FAMILIAR WITH COMPUTERS SPECIFICATIONS AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT THE COMPUTERS/PRODUCTS THAT Tronix IS ATTEMPTING TO SELL. You may end up saving yourself a lot of dept and heartache if you do your research before buying from this company. PLAIN AND SIMPLE; TRONIX IS NO DIFFERENT FROM BLUEHIPPO.. IF YOU’RE EXSPECTING OTHERWISE YOU]’RE MOST LIKELY TO BE DISAPPOINTED OR FRUSTRATED WITH TRONIX.

  • very very satisfied customer

I was worried about them at first because I had just sent in my form accepting their terms. I’m glad to say I did receive my computer with no problems. As in anything financed the purchase price is going to be higher than if you had the money to just purchase the product right away. When I originally called the company to order the computer I was offered “FREE” products. Software, MP3 player, Digital Camera LCD TV & DVD w/remote. I didn’t really look at these additional products as “FREE”. I considered the final purchase price for the computer included payments for these “FREE” products which made the price a great savings package. If I were to purchase the “FREE” products and the computer I would have spent much more – so I am a very very satisfied customer and they will report my payments on my credit. San Bernardino, CA USA

  • http://basiclife.com Damon Talbert

Lest see…. a 300.00 computer, a digital camera and a LCD TV a good deal for payments of around 1800 bucks.

First of all we all know there are off brand or no name brands of anything out there. That is what all of those so called free items are or they would tell you the brand. So your free stuff is simply cheap junk. I bought a good 20 inch LCD TV over 2 years ago for 240.00, that can be bought for less than 200.00 now. You can buy a real name brand camera for less than 70.00 and DVD players are 29 bucks everywhere.

It sounds like what we may have is a Very Very satisfied employee trying to make sure she still has a job next week.

And would you believe as I am typing this there just happened to have one of those ridiculous commercials on TV. Looked like the MP3 player was one like I saw at Walmart the other day for 9 bucks.

  • ontoyourscam

What the very very satisfied customer forgot to mention was if you miss ANY payments there are no so called “FREE” items!

  • KeepItReal

Sorry to go personal but have to bust Damon Talbert’s chops a bit. Buddy–you are all over the place with your comments, attacks, reviews, and on and on.
Making all ur personal info available doesn’t make u an expert.
You come off like a guy in a trailer park (am I wrong?) who watches enough cable shows to know a little about topics to be dangerous. While at times you seem lucent, other times you appear raving.
Focus all ur energies and get off the dole

  • KeepingItReal….Really?

Why did you decided to personally attack Damon? He makes valid points. Attacking him doesn’t make Tronix seem any less scammish? Damon is very vocal about how shady Tronix seems, and not surprisingly, he is attacked in an attempt to discredit him. All an employee of Tronix has to do is type in the company name, find all message boards that mention the company and give phony testimony or attempt to discredit anyone who speaks out against the scam. Pathetic.

  • Not an Tronixcountry Employee

Let me start by saying I Love This Company! — Just kidding :) , of course this is a scam! There are other creative ways to get you a nice PC – please read on. I’ve found some great deals on desktops and laptops at my local flea market, often less than $50 for a good working system (these are probably better than Tronix machines), just test them before you buy! There are also govt auctions in your area (check govsales.gov and govdeals.com). These machines may have wiped drives but if you have a friend who can load an OS for you, a deal awaits courtesy of the US govt!

  • Dung Nguyen

Sunday 3/14/10, I was I was watching TV last night advertis come on for Tronix Country.
yes is it is another Blue Hippo.
in 2006 there got me about $600.00 some latop for i sent to them 29.99 a week after there being take my money out of my bank account for 5 month i find down the computer i was pay is about 2000.00 us dollas so there is no computer. i call them up and there say because i was stop my payment and cancel the contract with them that is my lost and no money return if i was cancel the payment.
so yes is it another BLUE HIPPO SCAM.

  • Tronix Country

Tronix Country has been in business for almost 10 years. They are NOT affiliated with Blue Hippo except for the fact that the owners started out as partners. Blue Hippo is long gone, and Tronix Country is a much better alternative.

For those talking about the price, if it is too expensive or a bad deal, then don’t buy it. Just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean that it is a scam. As with anything financed (especially with no credit check) the price paid is always higher.

If you look for Tronix Country complaints online, you will find that there are not very many.

Also, please note, as stated in the contract, if the customer misses 1 of the first 5 payments, then they must pay 6 additional payments. Many of the customers who claim never having received a computer forget to mention that they probably never even consecutively fulfilled their layaway payments.

In conclusion, if you plan on doing business with Tronix Country, just follow your contract. If you do what you said you will, then Tronix Country will certainly do what they said they will.

    Cheers.

  • Curt Gorsuch

    That last comment,

In conclusion, if you plan on doing business with Tronix Country, just follow your contract. If you do what you said you will, then Tronix Country will certainly do what they said they will.

Not really true. I went through the program once (Laptop paid off, no problems). And now im halfway through another plan with another laptop. Checked my credit the other day, and there has never been anything put into any of the 3 credit agencies for me. Ever…. The only reason for me to go thru tronix was the credit score. So I am screwed. They cant fix that, since it was a year and a half worth of payments.

  • http://www.tronixcountry.com Tronix Country

Curt Gorsuch, please contact customer care and provide them with your information and the situation. This should easily be resolved.

  • DON’T BE A SUCKER

    People need to remember this:

This company wants to prey on those who are vulnerable because of their credit history. They feel weak and hopeless. This company is offering (seemingly) a good deal to give these people hope of getting a laptop, etc.

IF IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE….IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE !!!!

  • Current Events

I am one week into my Tronix experience and so will keep this conversation alive until its hopefully happy conclusion.

I called Customer Care 3 days after my order to get the specs on the items I had purchased and to confirm my 7 day option to cancel. Customer care then said that I only had 72 hours to cancel.

After they offered me every free item, I waited 1 more day to think it over and then I called to cancel.

    Status:
Customer Care says I should wait 5 – 10 days to hear from them with a recording of the sales conversation, proving my 7 day Option Out claim.

If they do call and reimburse my 170 dollars, I will have no bad word to say about the company as I know, having been one myself, that salesmen will say anything to get the deal.

    I will keep you posted

LOL, I am simply amazed at how dumb people can be. If you get suckered into this scam, you deserve what’s coming to you. Stop being so freaking dumb, people. Make the scammers work a little bit at least before you give them all your money.

  • Tom, an Attorney

I am an attorney and I recently had a client ask me to investigate a problem they were experiencing with Tronix. I read the reports online regarding problems other had apparently experienced and I expected little or no cooperation from Tronix. I was AMAZED at the immediate response that I received from my first communication with Tronix. Quite frankly, I normally have to write several letters before a company will respond to a consumer’s complaint. The Tronix staff immediately satisfied almost 90% of my client’s concerns. Since I strive for 100% satisfaction myself, I wrote a second letter to Tronix and Bruce Mattare HIMSELF contacted me and provided my client with the additional relief they were seeking. I provided my representation to my client on a pro bono (or “no cost” basis). I was extremely impressed with Mr. Mattare’s hands-on approach to a relatively simple customer complaint. I’m not sure why anyone else has experienced a problem with his company but based on my personal experience today (July 9, 2010) I would “recommend highly/subject to your own personal due diligence”, this company…at a minimum, Mr. Mattare has met or exceeded my expectations for his own personal involvement in this matter. I am a licensed member of the PA Bar Association with over 28 years of legal experience and I was “impressed”…and that takes a LOT.

  • Rusty

Well, Tom, an Attorney (aka employee of Tronix), go f**k yourself. :D

  • slappy

It’s a company that is managed and run by the same people who ran Blue Hippo (Now bankrupt and insolvent due to the Federal Governments forced closure). Really people, do you think you’re going to get all that free junk and a great computer for a low price? LMAO! You’re getting outdated end of life Dells that are on clearance for double the price they were when they sold new. That free stuff they say they will send you is junk, also outdated non brand junk. But you’ll never see it anyway because you’ll never see the computer you’re paying for, just like the 200,000 other suckers who got scammed by Blue Hippo.

And hey ‘lawyer’, I’d never hire you to represent me, you’re story is bogus and you lack validity. We all know Bruce never contacted you at all, quit bullshitting.

  • marvin

I worked for Blue Hippo when both Joseph and Bruce were there. The whole concept is bogus. They know damn well that most people will never make all their payments and just want as much money as they can get and not give them a computer. They allowed, pushy, abusive phone salesmen to bully people into ordering. Joe was an angry douche bag of the highest order and Bruce was right by his side. I hate myself for ever working there. I only had one real sale and I got in trouble for asking the guy if he was sure that he wanted to do this before completing it.

  • KirkDCadvocate

Having read through this blog, I have a few questions: 1) Why is it the consensus of the group that any posting that doesn’t describe this company’s products as old and outdated isn’t being honest. I simply find it hard to believe that Dell would allow a company to sell their brand by providing old, outdated systems. 2) When a person claiming to be an attorney makes a statement, he is immediately assumed to be a liar. Why was his degree called into question–because he did not have anything negative to say? yet 3) From this group comes an individual who knew senior management at a former company, was included in their circles and yet only made one sale?? A few things here just dont make sense. A few people were supposed to get back on issues, I cant imagine we would not heard back if things didnt go their way. I appreciate other advocates, and the internet that empowers us, but the community is not served by innuendo or personal attacks described as debate.

    • http://wp3.lockergnome.com/nexus/blade/ Ron Schenone

      Great points!

If I could get my hands on that thief joe blow I would f**k that punk up both are ripoff

  • Springfield Resident

I laugh at the lawyer who said they were personally contacted by Bruce himself. Why you ask, because the day he supposedly took his precious time to contact the lawyer he was actually preparing for his wedding the next day. If you don’t believe me here’s the link: http://registry.weddingchannel.com/coupledir/20107/M/R316079160/CARLA_MARISCAL_AND_BRUCE_MATTARE.htm as he married one of his young employees…lol Apparently pedophilia is a trait of his. In any case, I agree that this blog seems jaded but maybe that’s just because Tronix has jaded so many people. When good things are said it just seems there views are so non-standard compared to others. But facts are facts and in the case of the “lawyer” I suggest you pick a better date next time when Bruce is actually working…nice try. Who knows maybe it was his wife to be trying to help him out so they could pay for their honeymoon with everyone’s money.

  • Shirley

I am not a lawyer, but I do have a paralegal degree. Therefore, I know for a fact, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it takes more than a phone call to resolve such a matter for multiple people. Tom, TronixLaw degrees are not legitimate and will not lead you into a legal career.
Tronix Country plants, we are not as stupid as you must think. You should at least plan your business strategies better if you are going to scam people. Maybe you should hire employees that have at least some common sense. Did you think no one would discuss this matter online?!

  • Chuck

Hi! I’m George Washington. I just love Tronix Country! ;^)-

  • Jared

    Simple math people:

    $200.00 PC
    $100.00 TV
    $50.00 Webcam
    $10.00 MP3 Player

    Tronix’s price: $1899.00

This company just feeds on the weak and gullible. It’s amazing people still fall for this bullshit with Google just a keyboard away.

Honestly, 99% of infomercials is plain crap.

  • Brandon Morgan

Yeah, when I saw this commercial, I immediately thought of Blue Hippo as well. I’m sorry for the people that fell for this scam, but to me, it’s obvious that it is a scam. I mean, look at the merchandise they are offering; they all look cheaply made or from like 10 years ago or something. People should look up the history of companies first before they actually call them.

  • BOB P

HERE’S AN IDEA. GET YOUR SORRY ASSES OUT OF
DEBT, SAVE A MEASELY 400.00, GO TO WAL MART
AND BUY A LAPTOP, OR NETBOOK . THEN YOU DON’T
HAVE TO RELY ON TRONIXCOUNTRY(WHAT A DUMB ASS
NAME) , IF YOU ARE NOT FINANCIALLY SOLID, THEN
MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT OWN A COMPUTER.

  • BOB P THE LAWYER

PLEASE GIVE TRONIXCOUNTRY ALL OF YOUR MONEY.THEY ARE THE GREATEST, 2600.00
IS SUCH A LOW PRICE FOR ALL THE SHIT THAT THEY GIVE YOU. 29.99 A WEEK IS A STEAL, AND PLEASE GIVE THEM ALL YOUR PERSONAL INFO SO THEY DEBIT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FOR 10 YEARS, THEY ALSO NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY SHITS YOU TAKE A DAY AND HOW BIG YOUR D**K IS SO THEY CAN F*** YA WITH IT.

  • David

It’s Blue Hippo all over again. Don’t even think about it. The phone number at a place I used to work had somehow gotten on Blue Hippo’s phone list and for a while I was getting a call from them every week. I eventually started playing games with the telemarketers trying to see how long I could drag out the conversation. I gave them tons of false information, including FTC addresses and phone numbers for US Attorneys, etc. I even went so far as to use the name of a former US drug czar. It way pretty amusing, especially when I acted like I had a case of mild dementia. In the process of messing with these people I became very familiar with the anatomy of the scam. Being a professional technology guy, it was pretty obvious that they were selling over priced junk using predatory sales and financing models.

I don’t have to think twice about it. Tronix Country == Blue Hippo. Period. There should be no debate.

And, in response to the Tronix Country employee above, if your company has been in business for 10, why was your domain name only registered in 2007? Lies, lies and more damnable lies from the same damn con artists.

  • Harry Manback

HAI GUIZE I HERD YOU LIEK TRONIX

by the way did I mention I’m familiar with birdlaw and other such lawyerings? hearsay! objection!

  • Harry Manback

PS KMart does layaway for all you poor people that can’t afford to save 400 dollars to buy a computer that makes the Tronix company’s equipment look like yesterday’s news(oh, maybe because it is?), but can SOMEHOW afford 1900 dollars worth of payments over the course of a year. Jesus, I wonder why you’re poor with money management skills straight out of “Crack Cocaine Addict Weekly”

Sooooo the $601.00 difference is for building your credit score and Tronix’s customer service? Lol. I’ll bet I can find a better machine than Tronix Country’s basic model at a Goodwill or swapmeet for under $100.

    • http://wp3.lockergnome.com/nexus/blade/ Ron Schenone

      Thanks John

  • Dell Employee

First off I work in Consumer Sales for Dell. I just saw this ad and started laughing. The models they have on their commercial we haven’t sold in 2+ years. I went to their website and looked into their ‘high performance’ systems. The $2200 laptops they have, we sell for $449. No joke. Their $1800 desktops, $400. My phone has the same amount of RAM as their ‘basic models’. I understand people’s credit isn’t always great, but seriously there is no way that anyone should purchase from this company. If you consider buying from them, please reconsider. If you spend $2000 on a $449 computer you probably aren’t smart enough to use one, so don’t waste your money.

  • compbuilder

Hell I can BUILD a computer with better specs for a hell of a lot cheaper than these crooks. I hope the FTC bites these people in the ass for what they do to people.
