Verizon To AT&T: The Truth Hurts – Our 3G Coverage Is Better Than Yours!

Posted by on Nov 17, 2009 | 7 Comments

AT&T is suing Verizon stating that its ‘There’s A Map For That’ misleads consumers. If you are not familiar with this advertisement, it basically shows two maps of the United States. One in red which represents the Verizon wireless coverage and one in blue, representing AT&T. The blue map seems to indicate that Verizon has better coverage than does AT&T when it comes to 3G wireless.

Here is the map:

This is how Verizon has responded to the allegations in the court filing:

In the court filing, Verizon outlines the reasons that AT&T’s arguments are without merit. They include:

  • Because the ads are truthful, AT&T is attacking them under faulty theories, including a claim that they are misleading. But Verizon says there’s no real evidence – aside from an AT&T commissioned survey – that proves that consumers are misled by the ad.
  • There is no emergency that would require the court to issue an immediate restraining order – as AT&T has requested – without giving Verizon the opportunity to conduct its own research and present evidence to prove that consumers are not being misled.
  • The harm to Verizon and the public, in general, caused by pulling the ads is greater than any alleged harm being inflicted on AT&T.

But this is where it even gets better:

AT&T seeks emergency relief because Verizon’s side-by-side, apples-to-apples comparison of its own 3G coverage with AT&T’s confirms what the marketplace has been saying for months: AT&T failed to invest adequately in the necessary infrastructure to expand its 3G coverage to support its growth in smartphone business, and the usefulness of its service to smartphone users has suffered accordingly. AT&T may not like the message that the ads send, but this Court should reject its efforts to silence the messenger.

Maybe AT&T can use a map comparison for land line coverage! LOL

You have no facts in this report to say that Verizon is better than AT&T!! Prove it, not by media, but actual, and factual documentation!!! Lear how publish information!!!!

There might be no facts stated, but the maps are all that need be shown. There is coverage in EVERY state with verizon’s 3G network, whereas AT&T’s completely misses alaska, south dakota, northdakota, wyoming, and montana. Verizon has clearly been attempting to expand their 3G network more than AT&T.

The verizon map is not completely truthful. Verizon does not offer coverage in Alaska. Period, no coverage, no partner, no retail stores. AT&T does however offer 3G coverage in all the more populous cities and towns and have retail stores. I don’t have either for my provider, but it does make you wonder if those Verizon maps aren’t a tad bias and fallacious .

    Hello Brandon,
I would not believe either AT&T nor Verizon. Corporate America are thieves! Plan and simple. The greed in our country will one day destroy us. Sad, but true.

Look I had both companies for my phone service, and there is truth in verizons map. There are places AT&T just don’t have service. I have less dropped calls with verizon. You can all wAys test it yourself. Go pick up a little cheap prepaid phone and see. Verizon has always had the better coverage. AT&T aren’t even really disputing this in their commercials. AT&T Cover largely populated areas. Funniest thing to me is that their biggest comeback is you can download and talk at the same time. Well thats just stupid to me and hell being able to download and talk at the same time isnt going to do you any good if you don’t hAve a signal!
