Like a poster said Circuit City's prices were retarded The son of the CEO said "We lost sight of our buisness focusing on margins rather than noticing others who didn't think that as a top priority." Translation: Higher prices means more profit for us, We could give a rat's putootie for the loyal sales associates who kept us alive to line our pockets with excessive perks and compensation, but our 10+ year veterans, we couldn't afford them.( my sister was with the Resurrecting circuit city from the dead is retarded. I'm lucky I have Fry's for my geek fix. I have 3 of them within 15 miles of each other. Most people aren't so lucky and they are dependent on something on the line of CompUsa. They however left a sour taste in my mouth as they were going down in flames fast with really dumb management and decisions, their prices started to become so ridiculous that even their going out of buisness sale offered little to no bargains. But competition is so fierce out in my market that" shlubbiness" is just not tolerated or accepted. Although the service in Fry's is practically none existant we who do Fry's just want to get our stuff and go on with ou lives and not make a day of it. If you want hand holding than you need a place like CompUSA which if they support those people who want the extra service, they might be able to get away with charging higher prices. Don't worry about customers who bleed you dry with information and then trot off to Fys. There are a lot of Ace Hardware shoppers here that won't even consider stepping foot into a Home Depo. But there is a classic buisness going down hill while it's competition is doing something right. The same could be said of a new CompUsa business model similar to Ace hardware, with Fry's as it's competitor but there's room for all. You'd best compensate your good employees well, and that doesn't necessarily mean money. The employees in this industry are not looking to their 401ks. But piss them off and they'll maybe take that "offer" at Fry's. Isn't competition beautiful?

The last 7 or 8 years or so, Best Buy had significantly scaled down sales of parts & accessories for computers that us nerds wanted so much, and CompUSA was the only nation-wide place that had a good selection of parts. They were also, for some time, the only major retail outlet that sold Apples (I don't count Circuit City b/c for the past decade or more their prices were retarded).

Seeing CompUSA go down was sad, and it's nice to see the company that owns our beloved Tiger Direct resurrecting them. Although i absolutely love getting dirt-cheap prices on practically everything computer-related I could think of, being let's face it, brick & mortar stores have a great instant-gratification advantage.

Now hopefully they are able to re-purpose these two companies without going under themselves.

I hate it when people bring up the 3400 associates that were let go a few years ago at CC. First of a lay off of 3400 people is nothing in the world of layoffs, It amounted to about 1-4 associates per store. Nothing!
They layed off people that made far over the Cap, most of which were making sometimes as much as $10 more then the other people doing the same job.
Make no mistake, this was a last ditch effort to not close any stores. What they should have done at that time is close the 155 stores they closed a year later. That might have saved the company. But would have resulted in far more job loss then laying of 3400.
Schoonover handled it poorly and was not able to make the decision that was obvious.

To tell you the truth, the fact that those people had been there for 10 years and were not able to move up does not make them good employees in my mind. Im just saying.

Circuit City is still a name that people remember and even at the end had huge success around there web site and firedog. I say go for it.

I think that resurrecting Comp USA is a brilliant idea as long as the upper level mismanagement including the Mexican billionaire stay away as far as nuclear fallout. As far as Circuit City, who in their right mind would PAY for a name that people refer to as Suckit Shitty? I refer to their decision to putting all their senior experienced employees out to pasture while replacing them with the clueless set having to pay for that designer acne cream touted on MTV with their princely wages a la minimum. Penny wise and pound foolish moves like curtailing the sales of major appliances during the great kitchen remodel boom while customers are desperately seeking a venue to whet their appetite for such merchandise. And let's not forget: DIVIXX anyone? Such annoying decisions does not lend itself to paying so much as a penny for a trashed name. After Circuit City's decision to purge their higher paid workers, a worker in California threatened a lawsuit based on " age discrimination." Since obviously the "senior" employees were let go in favor of the less paid newer ones Gloria Alread took on the case as a class action. Shortly thereafter ( Did you really think that she spent so much as a dime pursuing? First thing a lawyer learns is you don't sue poor people. So it is safe to say that this was purely a publicity play for a well known media whore.) Circuit City went shopping for a suitable suitor to take over. There were no takers. ( Why am I/you not surprised?) When I went online to get a specific TV converter box for a friend ( none of the stores had it or could confirm its arrival even after advertising said item) I saw an announcement that only an hour earlier the web site and stores were no longer and their stock was valueless. Hence their name is valueless unless you want to start a buisness using that name would be considered by some as a shill company as a tax dodge/haven. A name with the dubious cachet and fame tantamount to " Box office poison."
