How Long Does It Take To Upgrade Windows 7 From One Version To Another? How About 10 Minutes

Posted by on Nov 12, 2009 | 6 Comments

As you may have recalled I bought my wife a new Toshiba laptop for her birthday. [Here is the unit I bought] The laptop originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium which I wanted to upgrade to Ultimate. So this evening I pulled out the Ultimate disk and used the built in Windows Anytime Upgrade feature which is built into Windows 7.

After typing in the serial number, getting it verified as being genuine, the install process started. In less than 10 minutes the upgrade was complete and Ultimate was up and running.

I just I thought I would share this since I was surprised the upgrade process was so quick.

Just wondering why it was necessary. Will the laptop be used on a domain? Rocket propulsion secrets ? [g]

    Hi Marc,
The real reason I did the upgrade was [1], to see how easy or not so easy it would be, and [2] I had an extra license for Ultimate! LOL

Now Jackie can have bragging rights in our hood! LOL

My computer must have taken the scenic route because it took more than a day to complete installation. It works fine now but it was stuck at 58% for over 5 hours before it made its way over the hill. No lag with performance now but the installation was a little bit more than 10 minutes and from what I’ve seen online, I’m not the only one.

    Hi Chase,
WOW! I thought my upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 at 5 1/2 hours was long, but you must of set a record! LOL

The 10 minutes was from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate.
