Is FinallyFast.com A Trustworthy Site? You Decide.
Back on August 19, 2008 I wrote an article about FinallyFast.com [see the orignal article here] after viewing a television advertisement for the product. Having not used the software personally, I posted a question asking for comments from users and for them to share their experiences using the FinallyFast product.
On Saturday November 7, 2009, Chris sent to me, via email, a letter from the legal representative of Ascentive, which operates the FinallyFast website. In the letter we were asked for clarification on the ratings I cited using McAfee Site Advisor and also WOT – Web of Trust.
At the time I wrote the original article I stated that McAfee Site Advisor listed FinallyFast, com as being untrustworthy and this was true at the time. 14 months later McAfee Site Advisor now lists FinallyFast.com as being trustworthy. However, WOT still advises users that FinallyFast.com is not a trustworthy site.
One advisory states that FinallyFast.com is a trustworthy site and another states that it is not.
So my question to the readers of Lockergnome is this.
How would you handle this conflicting information?
Comments as always are welcome.

Ron, I can’t believe their commercials are still airing, but as P.T. Barnum once said: “There’s a sucker born every minute”. I did a Google on them quite some time ago and saw nothing but adverse negative comments on them. Some commenters even pointed out that the actor in the commercial was in fact using a Mac and presenting it as a Windows-based system! Your columns merely presented the results of other services findings and NOT yours, so I find it incredulous that FinallyFast.com would ask you to remove the column! I would suggest you invite these idiots to do some research and also do the same Google search I did.
Most everything they claim their product will do can easily be done using free software available on almost any Blog via url links included in articles like yours!. When will people stop getting sucked into this crap and realize there’s no magic bullet cure for failing to follow a regular maintenance program on their pc’s or just plain doing stupid things! LOL

Hello Ron,
I read your original article as well as the comments that were posted by other readers. I stopped using McAfee Site Advisory after I learned that McAfee would change their rating if badgered or threatened by a site owner.
I personally would think that WOT would have a better and more honest rating since they are from consumers. Trusting McAfee is like asking someone to trust Microsoft.

Not familiar with the site but if you got a takedown notice, you’re obviously doing a good job

Hello,
My day job is a researcher at an anti-malware company, and we receive similar sounding messages all the time. Sometimes they are legitimate requests for assistance with a false positive alarm (i.e., a report of malware where there actually is none), but the overwhelming majority come from companies which distribute rogue AV, fake AV, adware and other potentially unwanted or potentially unsafe programs.

I don’t trust a site who’s commercials are doctored not showing the actual use of the website but more of flash pasted on computer screens and who uses Macs in the commercials but showing windows being ran, they also show no support for OSX(like you need it) but still, then again I use a Mac so I have no use for the site anyway

I googled this website and when I tried to open it my K9 Web Protection program put in the suspicious category and wouldn’t let me continue!

GET A MAC!!
Sorry that was a bit loud, but Macs’ won’t need to use finally fast as they are always fast. And about finally fast speeding up your Internet that is untrue. That is determined by your connection, so Internet will not be faster.

WOT is based through User Feedback. A possiblity is that through the real dislike for the site for alot obvious reasons, ( like selling software that’s available for free) people began listing the site as Untrustworthy. It only takes 2 clicks to state it as an unsafe site. That may be why the sites safety rating are conflicting.
Im sure the software and the website are safe. But then again, i wouldn’t trust a site who sell free software. It takes advantage of the average unknowing internet user for a profit. Its just wrong.

@ Kashif Exactly. The only problem between Macs and PCs is cost. If I could, I would get a Mac and start using it more than my PCs. The only thing good about PCs is that they can run more games.

My computer had become horribly slow and seemed to “spin its wheels” endlessly when asked to perform any function (open files, run a program, etc.). I do periodically empty the cache, defrag, etc. and I am running ZoneAlarm Antivirus. My partner’s teenage son, whom we regard as a computer geek, recommended FinallyFast.com. I purchased that program as well as RamRocket. The program supposedly found and “fixed” around 800 errors. That was 3 days ago. As of today my computer is running as slow as ever. I wonder if I can get my money back and also, how can I actually improve my PC’s performance.

Give this program a try and see if you have any critters on your system.

There is no ‘Magic’ program that will speed up your computer. Windows suffers from a process of slow bloat that overtime loads so much stuff into the registry that even simple actions like opening folders can take forever.
Spyware, malware, and small crappy programs that stay running can cause your system to act like sluggish. It is important to run a good active scanner to make sure that you do not get infected with crap you do not need.
One of the best ‘fixes’ for any computer is to reinstall, or install a fresh, operating system. I do this every couple years.
If you are truly unhappy with your performance, then it may be time to look at an upgrade, more ram, new processor, etc. Or just a whole new computer.
Before you spend any money on something like ‘Finally Fast’ you should look at what programs are loading when you start up, reducing the number of running programs, that are using memory, is the first step to increasing performance.
As always,
caveat emptor

+1 for http://www.malwarebytes.org/
I’m sure Microsoft and others spent quite a bit of time and expertise making sure everything runs quickly and smoothly. Speedup programs are rarely anything more substantial than snake oil.
