ChromePlus – Is It Better Than Google’s Chrome Browser? You Decide

Posted by on Sep 27, 2009 | 3 Comments

ChromePlus browser is based on Google’s Chrome browser, but offers some added features worth taking a look at. ChromePlus is brought to us by the the folks at googleplus.org and is part of the open source community of developers. According to their web site it states the following information:

ChromePlus has all the functionalities that Google Chrome has. More, ChromePlus added some useful features such as Mouse gesture, Super drag, IE tab, etc. Meanwhile, ChromePlus is free with no function limitation and you can use ChromePlus to surf the internet in any case.

Features

Currently, ChromePlus has 5 extra features:

1. Double click tab to close page.

2. Mouse Gestures

3. Super drag

4. IE tab

5. Download tools supported in context menu.

Version: 1.2.5.0 for WinXP/Win2003/Vista/Win7

So I decided to take a look at ChromePlus and downloaded the free version. I installed the browser and setup my tabs. My bookmarks had been imported from Firefox and setup went without incident. The browser wroked well just like Chrome does, with one exception. For some reason my Lockergnome posting page where I compose my blog entries did not render properly. I checked this behavior against Google’s Chrome and noted there was no such issue with Chrome.

Overall the browser worked fine and did offer the added features noted above. If you like Google’s Chrome you may wish to give ChromePlus a try.

Comments welcome.

There is a 6th feature, and not the least : “Removed Chrome background communications ”

Of course it’s better than Chrome. It takes all the last goodies from Open Source Chromium recent version (4.0.222.3 for now) and adds very interesting features, plus better privacy.

Just to mention Google does exactly the same thing with the Chromium open source version and his official Chrome version. But adds no features, except perhaps “background communications”

Another interesting detail : ChromePlus developers are Chinese.

I like the Mouse gestures and Super drag feature of ChromePlus. I’ve created my own chromeplus review on my blog.
