PerfectDisk 10 Professional Certified For Windows 7

A few weeks ago I received an informational email that PerfectDisk 10 Professional had been certified by Microsoft as compatible with Windows 7. Having the RTM version of Windows 7 Ultimate on my test box, along with Windows XP Mode installed as well, I contacted Raxco, the software company that produces PerfectDisk 10 Professional.  The company was gracious and provided me with a full version to test on my Windows 7 machine.

Raxco describes PerfectDisk 10 Professional as:

Keep your computer running like new. PerfectDisk 10 Professional’s industry-leading defragmenting features speed up everything you do, from browsing the web to downloading music and editing pictures. Plus, you’ll see faster machine boot times and fewer software crashes and hangs.

Prior to installing PerfectDisk 10 Professional I timed the time it took to boot into Windows 7. Boot time was 1 minute and 14 seconds. When I was using Windows Vista Ultimate with SP2, boot time on the same system was 2 minutes and 22 seconds. Yes, Windows 7 has been vastly improved over its predecessor.

The installation of PerfectDisk 10 Professional went without incident and after a reboot I took the software for a spin. The software is intuitive and easy to use. I used what is called Smart Placement which Raxco describes as being:

PerfectDisk 10 Professional’s patented SMARTPlacement feature is the most sophisticated defragging solution available. It identifies the files you use most and then organizes them according to your unique usage patterns. This comprehensive process yields faster subsequent defrag passes, quicker computer boots, slower rates of fragmentation, reduced resource consumption and improved performance of desktops and laptops.

‘Quicker computer boots’ is always something we all would like. But with Windows 7, which already boots quickly, would defraging make a difference? After running SMARTPlacement I did a reboot and the system booted up to Windows 7 in 59 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. But where I really noticed improved performance is when it came to opening up Office 2010 Technical Preview programs. All of the programs I tried seemed to be more responsive when opening.

Next I went over to Windows XP Mode and tested Office 2003 with SP3. Again the programs appeared to open more quickly after using PerfectDisk 10 Professional.

As with any software your mileage may vary. But if you would like give PerfectDisk 10 Professional a try, they offer a trial version. Check out the link below for more information.

I’ve used PerfectDisk for several years now, and I wouldn’t be without it. I consider it the best, hands down. By the way, it’s certainly refreshing not to have to “sign in” to leave a comment! Who has time for that rubbish. Thank you sir.

Hi Buffet,
PerfectDisk does seem to work very well. Thanks for the info.

I’ve used PerfectDisk for months.

I love it.

Windows still not only has the limitations of a 20 year old file system, you still have to pay for utilities to cover it up? The more things change, the more they stay the same…

Perfectdisk may be the best but it’s off my list for good! You see I paid to upgrade Perfectdisk to support Vista. We all know that Vista and Windows 7 are the same at the core… in fact Windows 7 is basically Vista 2.0

So why do I have to pay to upgrade from the Vista Version to Windows 7? This is akin to trying to force people to upgrade their Word Processor after an OS update. While I understood that going from XP to Vista was a large hurdle and I gladly forked over the upgrade fee… this is nothing but a money grab pure and simple and people deserve to know this IMHO.
