Being Canadian, it is my patriotic duty to drive down to the United States the day before black friday, so that I may find myself in a position to buy lots of good stuff, at really, really cheap prices. lol :)

Here you have provided helpful and good information for everyone. People always feel excitement and glad about shopping. Also if they got discount and sale on different things during shopping then they can really enjoy it.

Personally, I think sales this year will be better than ever. I read over at http://www.bfreedom.com/2008/09/16/black-friday-2009-walmart-sales/ that they are planning to have more sales than in previous years. That site also covers a lot more companies, worth checking out

Hi Angela,
I hope you are able to get some good deals this holiday season. I believe quite a few folks will be looking for a great deal to stretch our dollars.

I don't know if all the stores will be having a great sale this year but I think there will be some. I can see Walmart have a sale like they did last year. Past few years before last year, Walmart's BF sale was not all that great. It has been years since I have seen Walmart so jammed packed like last year. Given last year's success, I think they will do it again. I do hope that this years holidays items are cheaper then last year. I was really surprised to see how expensive the candy, cookies, gift baskets, etc. were last year. I waited to buy that stuff after Christmas. I was also surprised to see how much stuff was left after Christmas as well. Usually I can nevever get any ornaments cause they are picked over after the holiday but last year I was able to get quite a few at Target. There is not alot of money for me this year so I hope I can get some good deals.

I can agree with all the postings. Job lay offs, higher taxes, higher cost of living, soaring gas prices and credit card interest rates have hit us all. But everyone knows that if something is going to be on sale on Black Friday and you just have to buy it because of the savings you will buy it.

Walmart offers 12 months no apr mininum purchase of 299.00 with mininum payments monthly. You just have to read the fine print. I charge then pay off with tax returns.

I clip coupons, and i search for coupon codes when ordering online. I also shop at price chopper and get my gas at sunoco. for every $50.00 in food i earn 10 cents off per gallon. BJ's also has their coupons combined with mine I saved 189.00 on my last trip.

Cut corners eat in front of t.v. no lights. turn down the heat two degrees. take shorter showers. do not eat out. Brown bag lunch. Bring coffee pot to work... No More Dunkin Doughnuts. Fill automobile tires up with nitro instead of air. It costs 20.00 and gained 10 more miles to the gallon. Turn your t.v. to energy saver. Buy energy saver bulbs from your electic company's website for cheaper than local store. National Grid has rebates when you purchase bulbs and appliances that are energy savers.

I think many consumers have been burnt by the sour economy.. whether it be job loss, cuts in pay, stagflation, whatever the reaons...

Here are my reasons why consumers won't/can't make retailers happy:

1. gasoline prices (where will they be 11/27/2009??)
2. credit card interest rates (bumped up 2-6% for you poor souls carrying a balance)
3. Job loss ? No black friday for you! All discretionary income cut... just affording the basics can hurt. Not every job is as secure as a Doctor, Nurse, Fireman, Policeman, or President of the United States! Many blue collar jobs are seeing pay cuts due to oversupply in so-called secure job fields such as nursing!

The sweet spot is for consumers to spend about $400-800 this holiday season.. but unless something breaks the consumer's way, this will be a dismal season as stressed retailers push to close stores and possibly into bankruptcy (sears, officemax, blockbuster).

I also agree, as the economy does bad, the deals get worse for the consumer, however unlike in years past this WILL come back to bite the B&M retailers, particularly as deals will be sought online.. and not necessarily at the B&M's online sites either!
