Intel Core i7 + Windows 7 = Will It Be Worth Waiting For?

MSI is confirming that their new laptops, which will begin to hit the streets in October, will have two significant changes. Intel’s next generation dual core i7 cpu code named Calpella with improved performance and extended battery life, will be part of their new laptop and notebook line up. The new computers will also be fitted with Microsoft’s latest operating system Windows 7. Together these two advances promise to increase performance by a whopping 50% compared to today’s offerings.
MSI believes that their laptops with the new cpu and OS will sell in the $600 to $900 range and come in 15″ and 17″ models. So now we have to ask ourselves if we want to wait until the end of October to make a PC purchase or buy an outgoing model at a lower sale price?
So what do you think? Should we wait for the next generation of computer systems or is now a great time to pick up a deal for less?
Comments welcome.

Hello,
I think that when Microsoft Windows 7 ships in October, there will be many computers and special offers at launch time, if past experience is any indicator.

I have the i7 processor in my latest machine. When I say latest, I’m refering to only my second one ever. The first was a Pentium 4. The difference can be likened to a horse and buggy vs. a starship. Operating System? Windows should have halted with XP. Anything else is rubbish.

The i7 and Windows 7 may have some success with die hard gamers who will pay any price, but they both represent an outdated line of thinking (boat anchor PCs) that is losing appeal to most of the market.
