Microsoft vs Apple - Here Come The TV Ads Again

I personally like to see that Apple is going to start their attack once again against the PC and Microsoft along their new operating system Windows 7. According to an article over at CNN Money the new ads started Monday night and use the old tactic that Apple’s are just better than any PC, especially those using Windows.

But here is the bottom line to all of this advertising monies being spent, no matter which side of the fence you sit on. First of all the advertising agencies need the money and this shouldn’t hurt the bottom line for the television stations as well. Let’s face it, revenue has been down during the recession, so any money that is being spent has to be good for the economy.

But what I see is that both Apple and Microsoft are spitting into the wind. Let us look at this logically and put the old Apple vs PC debate behind us. No Apple person is going to dump their Mac and run down and buy a PC, no matter how much money Microsoft spends on ads. I also seriously doubt that any PC user is going to pay 2x, 3x, or more dollars just to buy a Mac, no matter what Apple says. It comes down to money.

I personally will not buy a $2400 Mac laptop, even if it was assembled by virgins, when I can buy a PC laptop for $600. For the price of a Mac I can buy 4 PC’s !

That’s my 2 cents. How do you feel?

I am personally a Mac person. When people ask me why the only reason that I can come up with is that it just feels natural to me. That and the software I use is made for Mac.

Hello Computerwhiz1,
Thank you for an intelligent post that actually expresses a honest opinion and not just ‘trash talking’ about the PC. Feeling natural on either a Mac or PC should be the primary reason for using either make of computer including Linux.

Microsoft ads don’t address how much Windows suck, they only address the fact that they cost less.

If they really want to go down that road, there’s plenty of operating systems that are free.

it’s not 2x or 3x, you do get better hardware on the Mac.

They didn’t mention that their $800 HP laptop, while having an 11.7% larger screen than the Macbook (17″ vs 15″) had, the maximum resolution of the HP’s screen was almost 25% lower than the Mac’s.

Also, have you ever actually owned an HP laptop? How long did it last before the touchpad went out? The one I had, the idiots at HP put the touchpad right over the CPU and you burned your fingers trying to move the mouse cursor.

Those are probably the only ads on TV that I enjoy watching. But it baffles me that MS has been so slow or reluctant to counter. They could obviously fire back with ads that emphasize how few Macs are being used, or any of a multitude of other drawbacks, but they don’t.

I often wonder if there is someone at MS telling them that they must be really careful not to offend the Mac crowd. Either that or the MS ad people are just really incompetent. Get those guys who came up with the anti-Google “search overload” theme and turn them loose on Macs.

It would be hilarious.

You obviously have not been into an Apple store lately. Even during these economic times, the Apple stores are full of PC users switching to MACs.

I just made the switch after being a PC user since DOS. I made the switch for two reasons. One is that Apple quite simply just makes a better product. The other is that Microsoft has been putting out junk. AKA Vista & Office 2007.

I would add that there is no way I am going to pay for a Windows license with my new laptop when Linux is free…

What Do You Think?
