Apple Quietly Releases Hard Drive Firmware Update

Not wishing to attract any unnecessary attention to their hard drive problems, Apple has quietly release a fix for their hard drives in the Mac Pro. For those who purchased a Mac Pro on or about June, 2009, the update is said to fix beeping problems and minor hangs that some users have experienced. What I find ironic is that Apple uses Seagate hard disks, the same hardware that many of us use in our PC’s. Along with using Intel processors, standard memory modules and other standard PC hardware, the lines have become blurred as to the differences in hardware between a Mac and a PC.

On the Apple web site it states the following information:

About Hard Drive Firmware Update 2.0

MacBook Pro Hard Drive Firmware Update 2.0 reduces certain infrequent noises made by 7200-rpm drives.

These drives shipped with the June 2009 MacBook Pro.

To complete the firmware update process, please follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/Hard Drive Update.app).

The updater will launch automatically when the installation is complete.

New Hard Drive firmware will be: 0007APM2

So if you are in need of the fix it is now available.
