John Dvorak – He Needs Your Money

Posted by on Aug 12, 2009 | 11 Comments

John Dvorak can best be described as a genuine, certified, shit disturber. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy reading some of his stuff just like many of you do. But over the years after reading most of his writings, I always come away with the same feeling in my gut. Where does this guy come up with this stuff? Does he lay awake at night trying to think up stuff to write about?

His latest ramblings have to do with US Chief Information Officer (CIO) Vivek Kundra. Dvorak is making allegations that this man is not qualified to be CIO. If you read between the lines I think Dvorak doesn’t believe that this guy is qualified enough to clean toilets. But that’s another story. What is important is that Dvorak may not of done all of his homework before spraying his blog with allegations.

But enough. What Mr. Dvorak needs is your money. Money to keep his web site up and running. Here is the information:

For those of you that hate Paypal you can send a check: John C. Dvorak, Box 339, El Cerrito, CA 94530

So if you support this person, by all means, send in a donation.

Comments welcome.

Maybe he should write about Microsoft PlayReady Digital Restrictions Malware.

I just tuned to channel 34 (AMC) and found that Microsoft is conspiring with them to slip DRM into my cable television.

Can’t even watch the channel without their crap.

I uninstalled Windows Media Center and installed Aver Media Center instead. What a load of crap.

That ad has been on his site since the beginning of the year. Not an indication that he’s in need of money. Has stated before that he doesn’t like the ads generated by Google so he removed them and asked for donations.

I have been reading Dvorak since about 1983. Over time, I find he is rarely off in his ideas and opinions, but he has been way off a couple of times.

Just as in baseball, even Willie Mays had bad days, but over a career, he was the best I’ve ever seen. Dvorak is like that.

My favorite example is his ideas about OS/2 versus Windows. Until the advent of XP, he stated flatly that OS/2 was better, and he was dead on. The only ones who would dispute that opinion are those that never used OS/2.

    Thanks Marc – good point.

Lots of the things Dvorak comes up with seem off the wall on first look, but end up being spot on. The guy has been in the technology biz since forever and his experience shows with the depth of his ideas. I tend to think there is something to that blog entry.
I don’t think he needs your money, he might want some of it, but he doesn’t need it…

Interesting that this Sunday on Leo Laporte’s TWiT podcast, when discussing Kundra and the Holodeck comments that Kundra made to congress, John Dvorak and Leo pressed Om Malik, supposed Best Friend Forever of Vivek Kundra for ratification that Om thought highly of Kundra’s technical qualifications, that all Om would say was that he does not judge people and that he actually never met Kundra.

Moreover, Malik admitted that he really only knew as much about Kundra’s educational background as was dictated to Malik by an anonymous Whitehouse spokesman.

Seems that Om’s bashing of Dvorak on Om’s blog was a bunch of hot air.
