Spend A Grand For A Computer? You Must Own A Mac!

Maybe those Microsoft commercials are right. Those actors may be really buying PCs because they are so cheap. According to a recent survey conducted by NPD in June, 2009. Apple holds 91% of the over $1,000 computer market. In a recent article it also stated that:

Market Share 101
Microsoft and OEMs measure success in unit market share, which for combined Windows PC shipments is over 90 percent, according to Gartner and IDC. In the United States, Mac market share was a paltry 8.7 percent in second quarter, according to Gartner. The bulk of PCs sell for less than $1,000.

According to NPD, in June, average selling prices for all PCs sold at US retail was $701, or $690 for desktops and $703 for notebooks. But the ASPs get more interesting when comparing Macs to Windows PCs. For all Windows PCs, ASP was $515 in June. For Macs: $1,400. Desktop Windows PC ASP: $489. Mac desktops: $1,398. Windows notebook ASP was $520, or $569 when removing all those nasty, margin-sucking netbooks. Mac laptops: $1,400.

I guess that these figures show that Apple computer are more expensive than PC’s. No Duh! Now that Microsoft’s profits have fallen by 30%, maybe we won’t be bored with any more of those silly commercials.

And more expensive to fix.

If Geo Metros owned the entire under $10,000 market for cars, would you argue that spending more than $10,000 for a car was ridiculous?

It’s all perspective. If you want junk, junk is cheap.

I hate to be “That guy”… but I have to admit that I LOVE occasional Microsoft bashing. Not always though, and it does annoy me to see people doing it at times too, but when in the mood I love it.
I guess I was in the mood because I felt some sort of glee to read that their profits have fallen 30%. Wouldn’t that be due more to fewer people buying new gadgetry right now though? I wonder…

I should point out, while I’m already not really making a relevant comment, that I enjoy a bit of Apple bashing at times as well.
