Apple Warns Users Of Overheating iPhones

Posted by on Jul 3, 2009 | 8 Comments

You read about some users complaining that their white iPhones 3GS models have over heated and have turned pink in color. Well Apple has provided a common sense plan to avoid having your iPhone overheat to begin with. Some of what Apple states are general rules, like not leaving the phone in a closed car during a hot day. They also state there there is a built in screen warning users their device needs to cool before use:

Apple warning screen:

Here are some of the warnings that Apple provides:

Operate iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life or cause the device to temporarily stop working properly.

Store iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.

If the interior temperature of the device exceeds normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature:

  • The device stops charging
  • Display dims
  • Weak cellular signal
  • Temperature warning screen appears with the message “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it”

I wonder if this is just more of the same warnings that was out there with the original 1st gen iPhone? There used to be a warning against charging the phone in a case. Most users are probably using some type of protective case to prevent external damage and these cases are likely to create more instances of over-heating since they tend to block heat from escaping from the back of the device.

Canonical won’t install the codes + flash because of the license agreements. It applies to everyone because it is non-free.

Linux Mint 11 comes as a liveDVD. A liveCD is also available for people without a DVD burner or distributors established in the USA and Japan. The liveCD comes with less applications, no multimedia codecs and no restricted software, making it fit within 700MB and safely distributable in countries where the legislation allows patents to apply to software.

Mint is my choice too. User friendly and beats loading codecs.

I would say Ubuntu… I’ve tried everything else and didn’t like it… Though I do still use Windows for gaming…
