Ziff Davis will be shutting down their ExtremeTech web site soon and the folks who worked the site will be let go. ExtremeTech was noted for their in depth study of new technology and new products. The site also presented information for what was called ‘extreme geeks’.
According to a recent article it also states:
The ExtremeTech.com web site will continue to operate as an archive. But no one will be working on it or refreshing the web site anymore. ExtremeTech is a site for extreme geeks. The site reviewed all sorts of gadgets in a way that showed that its experts really knew what they were talking about.
ExtremeTech and their band of experts will be missed. I wish the staff well in their new endeavors.
Comments welcome.

Though it will be one less place to visit on the internet, the staff, in their goodbye cited most of the reasons for why it no longer will be around.
It had lost most of its credibility, losing the detailed articles that would investigate the various kinds of hardware, every few months, or when a sea change took place in the market.
The site has become one of self-indulgent tales about what great hardware each was given to build a personal PC, coupled with stories about almost anything other than personal computers (ostensibly the reason for the site at its inception). I especially disliked the articles about multimegapixel cameras; that is the entire reason for magazines about photography.
There is no more ZDLabs, ZDBop, or any really in-depth stories.
I used to enjoy the kind of articles that followed a build, through discovered problems, and their fixes (or why they could not be fixed). The kind of articles that told what could be done with a machine , with a little effort. (The kind of stuff George Ou, formerly of ZDNet, does on his site now.)
The only things posted there lately have to do with how many fps they can get by overclocking the CPU/GPU, and that might get the young crowd, but does nothing for me - been there, done that.
ExtremeTech should have been like an upscale Maximum PC, but it never was, and now can never be.
