I am still happily using Windows XP about 98% of the time. I have 4 hard drives in my system Windows XP, Ubuntu 10, Windows 7, and one entirely for my media (movies, music, photos, etc). I love Windows XP because it isn't annoying as hell.

I remember when XP came out, I was using 98SE because I refused to upgrade to Win ME or 2000 because I tried them and saw no difference. But I remember that once I tried XP I loved it! So I'm not one of those who "hate something new". I loved the changes they made with XP.

With that being said, I absolutely hate the changes they made in Vista. So I skipped it. Now here is Windows 7. Better than Vista, but still very annoying. I recently installed it and had to spend atleast 2 hours modifying it to get it to where I could use it.

10 VERY stupid Windows 7 moves:
1. Getting rid of the very handy and accessible Quick Launch Bar!
2. Adding the annoying "pin to taskbar" b.s.
3. Changing the way the address bar in windows explorer shows your location. I know what a back slash means and so does the rest of the world that cares to read it.
4. Having the menu (File, Edit, View, etc.) in explorer disabled on default (seriously? WTF!?!)
5. Not being able to personally organize a folder, forced to choose one of microsofts options. (how user friendly is that?)
6. Aero Peek....... enough said
7. When you move a window around and accidently hit the top of the screen, BAM! it takes up the whole screen (can we say "retarded"?).
8. Control Panel, you have 2 options "Category View" or "a complete flippin mess". Mind you XP had the category view, but could be disabled as well and when it was, it didn't look like a jumbo size puzzle.
9. No "up one level" button in windows explorer. I use that ALL THE TIME! And NO i'm not using that stupid new address bar, I've been reading my location in windows explorer the same way since Windows 3.1. Don't change it if it isn't broken!
10. I hate being treated like an idiot and thats EXACTLY what Vista and 7 do. There's a difference between "easier" and "spoon-fed". XP is EASY, Vista and 7 are SPOON-FED.

Those are my 10 biggest complaints, the biggest being #10.

However I was able to modify everything except #5, #8, and #10. #8 I can live with. #5 Seriously gets under my skin when I would like to sort by my own preference. #10 is still there, just not as badly since "fixing" a lot of this.

P.S. Oh yea, I almost forget....THAT DANG FRIGGIN STUPID RETARDED NEW SEARCH!!!!!!!!

Hello
I have grew up with Windows XP my first ever computer had Windows XP. When i was a child i didnt know about operating systems and i thought XP was just the way computers looked and worked and always would be like that. Then came 2008 and i got a new desktop with Windows Vista, I hated it with a passion. I think what i hated more was the thought of losing XP. Even today nearly 2011 companies and the public sector from all around the world still rely on Windows XP. For many reasons software & hardware compatibilty issues. However, companies only use Windows XP for its stability and reliability but i believ home users like myself use the OS for its stylish but simple and pleasing looks alongside its easy usability and! I recently baught a new Dell Inspiron 15R with 4gb Ram and Intel i5-Windows7. I am lovign Windows 7 and must say its gunna be a long lasting OS and will outlive windows 8 in the future!!! In order for Microsoft to stop the Love of Windows XP they need to stop all extended support and stop the compatibility of all programs for Windows XP. People will eventually all make the move and wave goodbye to Windows XP. I also agree with the guy who said that most of the worls XP users today don't really choose Windows XP but insteas just baught a decent computer with good quality Haedware and Software installed so they just cant see any reason to upgrade untill their computers stop working! I cant say i am in favour of killing the Loved Windows XP BUT i am in favour in the advancement of Software and think XP is holding many people back from the beautiful future technology has to offer!!!!

When some people refused to pass from Win 98 SP2 to XP they did eventually because the latter offered more features and better performance. Win 7, on the other side, is just slower then XP. Yes, it can run up to 8GB of RAM, too bad no software in the world uses more then 2GB actually. Also, most of the resources have to go to the damn heavy 3D interface, which is pretty shiny but far from being necessary.
XP is more accessible and less closed, faster and more reliable. I run an awful lot of old software like old DOS games and software on XP without any effort. Passing to 7 would mean having to cope with a lot of driver problems and incompatibility, so who cares, especially when ALL the new software runs like silk on XP?

Windows XP is still the best OS out there. Its extremely easy to use, stable, no restrictions (like you can't disable auto arrange in win7), easy file sharing on networking.

Win XP is faster than Windows 7. I installed fresh Xp and 7. Win XP loaded in 14 seconds, while Win 7 loaded in 25 seconds. Machine Spec: 2.1 Ghz Quad Core, 8 GB Ram, 8800 GTS Nvidia

I don't love XP, I don't even really care what the OS is on my computer. Why would I? All I care about is that the programs I have purchased and use daily run as designed. With XP, they do, not to say they won't on new OS's, I don't know, don't care, why would I?

I understand that there are many improvements to the look and feel of the newer OS's, and I don't mind learning new things, or using new tools, but I haven't seen one single function / feature that I need, or that would prompt me to do any research into a new OS.

I run debian (linux) on my servers, i had win2003 prior to that. I changed because win2003 had problems that I had difficulty finding answers to. It took me months to get comfortable using linux, that was 2 years ago, and I have 0 problems with them now. If windows XP had a pile of problems, that I couldn't easily fix, I would switch, I would learn, and move on, but it doesn't, so instead, i will drink beer and watch football, which is much more fun than upgrading an os.

In short, I won't to upgrade just because it's new, that's not a good reason, and if people say using the new ones is easier, well, I say, I think using XP is easy. I don't go buy a new car every time a new model comes out, mine runs just fine, costs me much less than a new car, and if it breaks, i know how to fix it. There's a lot to be said for that, in my opinion.

I agree MaxSeven.
I have a laptop running Windows 7 and a netbook running XP. I would really like to upgrade my netbook to Windows 7 as well, but I don't really want to spend the money, because i'll probably replace the netbook soon. But as for which I prefer, Windows 7 hands down. Vista acquired a stigma during its release due mostly to incompatibility. Those complaints have totally disappeared in Windows 7. I have never had a newly released program that didn't run on Vista or Windows 7. As for speed Windows 7 feels as fast as XP and you get the benefit of new features. If someone wants to know why they should upgrade here's some of the things I like about Windows 7 that are not present in XP.

Snap windows: You can now drag windows to the sides and top of the desktop and have them auto size. When I first saw this feature I thought it sounded dumb, when am I going to use that? I thought. After using Windows 7 I find myself using this every day, If i'm moving files or I want to maximize a window quickly I use this.

Search: People still using XP have never gotten a chance to use the much improved search function. You're talking 1-3 seconds to find your files and programs, not the minutes it takes in XP, The search bar is in the start menu as well so it works much better. You'll find your self using this all the time.

Windows 7 also makes networking and settings easier to manage.

So unless you're a cheapskate like MaxSeven mentioned, then you should definitely get Windows 7.
