Maybe Google Is Worried About Bing

Maybe Google is a little worried about Bing after all. Google now has a Explore Google Search page in which they describe what they do. They also have introductions to their staff as well as user stories. Google also takes an in depth view of what exactly their search engine can do like finding out air flight information, locating a restaurant, package tracking and much. much more. All of the things that most of us are aware of.

On their site Google states:

Search is at the heart of everything we do at Google. Our engineers work every day to solve the hardest search problems, and thus improve your online experience. Here’s a glimpse at what they do, the features they’ve built and the remarkable user stories that inspire our work.

On their engineer site they introduce the people that make Google search possible. At the reader site they share stories of how Google search has helped people solve problems they have had in their lives.

So what is the purpose of the Explore Google Search page? I believe Google is trying to show what they do and how well it competes against Bing. I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t start to see Google TV commercials coming our way.

What do you think? Should Google fear Bing and Microsoft? Have you switched to Bing?

I think the real story is whether Yahoo is worried about Bing. Yahoo’s share has dropped as Bing’s share has arisen.. More at http://domusinc.blogspot.com/2009/06/ppc-marketing-bing-gains-yahoo-loses.html.

i havent switched to bing yet but i noticed the features like video search at bing is rather wonderful n surely google should be a bit worried.

I do use Bing sometimes. The Bing video search blows Google’s video search out of the water. I always found Google video search to be somewhat clunky, but Bing’s video search is like an image search with thumbnail clips no less.

The image search functionality is similar for both. I like how Bing uses one long page of thumbnails, but if you click a thumbnail and go back, it takes you to the top of the list.

Web search functionality is great on both, but I like Bing’s layout better. The related searches are on the side instead of at the bottom; it just seems cleaner.

I don’t think Google should be afraid of Bing, but Bing seems to be a viable competitor, at least until Google fights back in the cat and mouse game.

What Do You Think?
