Microsoft Warns Of Fake Malware Protection

Microsoft is warning users of the fake malware software known as Internet Antivirus Pro. Microsoft warns that the software can not detect any malware and is rogue software. Microsoft has provided these screen shots to make detection easy:

Win32/InternetAntivirus follows the familiar path of fake online scanner leading to the rogue downloader, which in turn installs the rogue itself. The online scanner looks like this:

Needless to say you will find that the Virus Protection in your Security Center will be in the off position.

Be careful out there. Use only trusted software on your computer.

    it’s pretty much a guaranteed thing in my workplace that at least once a week someone will come in with this or one of its replicants. I found the best program against it is Malware Bytes Anti-Malware

    but seriously, other ones to watch out for are XP Police, Antivirus 360 and Antivirus 09/08/pro.

    nasty stuff, but they don’t really do that much damage to the system, they just try to get you to pay for the “full version”

    That’s actually pretty damned funny that even with Windows Defender, an antivirus program, a firewall, and whatever else you may be using, Windows is so inherently insecure that a virus can walk right in, set up shop, and switch all of that stuff off.

    What are you paying for security software for?

    This is like hiring 6 heavily armed bodyguards who fail to stop a guy running towards you screaming “I’m going to blow you up” at the top of his lungs.

    the thing is that these programs don’t actually download unless you give them permission. it’s not so much about windows being insecure as it is users being uninformed of the threat.
