I don’t want to shoot them down, but their newsletter is kind of biased.

Previous articles have tried to spread FUD about Ubuntu claiming that PCLOS was easier to use, and at least at that point (2006 I believe), Ubuntu recognized all the hardware in my laptop including my wifi, and with PCLinuxOS, I had no sound, ethernet, or wifi.

Also, when installing it, I noticed a lot of it resembled Mandriva, so I started reading about it and found that it *is* a fork of Mandriva, only they seem to have broken it and use Synaptic and several of their own (poorly conceived) tools rather than Mandriva Control Center, which is possibly the best thing about Mandriva.

Certain distros tend to spring up that hype themselves up to be more than they really are, especially these “One man behind the whole thing - We depend on a bigger distro and dumb it down” ones. (Think MEPIS)

I’ll probably continue to recommend Fedora, Mandriva, Debian, etc., they have a much better quality control process than the dozen or so forks they spawned.

The magazine is about PCLiunxOS and includes various articles related to the distribution.

There was one article that got past the review that was less than pleasant towards Ubuntu. To be truthful, at the time Ubuntu was more hype than substance. Still is today.

PCLinuxOS uses a port of the Mandriva Control center. It also uses apt-get with a Synaptic frontend which many users coming from Ubuntu or Debian are can use with ease instead of the awful rpmdrake in Mandriva.

PCLinuxOS has been in operation since 2003 so it didn’t just spring up overnight. There are many developers and associates working on the distribution. PCLinuxOS is known for being a mature and stable distribution.

Next time try to get your facts correct before spreading half-truths and misinformation.
