Asus Eee Keyboard PC Coming In June, 2009

Posted by on May 15, 2009 | 13 Comments

Asus is about to unveil a keyboard PC which also features a 5″ display built into the board as well. The keyboard will house an Atom 270 processor, 32GB SSD, 802.11n, Bluetooth, HDMI-out, stereo speakers, and a 5 inch touch screen. Those are fairly impressive specifications.

This is what the model will look like:

Currently the keyboard PC is only scheduled to be released to Asian markets. Hopefully Asus will make this available to the remainder of the world as well. What is unknown is if the PC will be available with Windows 7. Also the price is unknown.

Comments welcome.

I think the screens getting smaller and smaller is a bad thing for PCs. HDMI out is nice but, I doubt this is a viable product here in the US.

This reminds me of the keyboard PCs that they used to advertise in the back of PC Magazine. I always wondered if they were any good.

I don’t know how well the screen will go over. All of my keyboards are on the little shelves on my computer desks. Half the time I have them pushed partially in so I never really see most of the keys.

I could use the calender app up I guess, but I wouldn’t buy a PC just for a 5″ screen to display the calender while the pc is outputting to a monitor. :)

Well that’s just weird, what’s the screen for, and why is it to one side?

    I just don’t get it!

It’d be an interesting tool if you could plug it into another computer to act as simply a keyboard + mouse, removable storage, analyze other equipment, etc. It could serve as both stand alone pc and mobile pc technician tool depending on the need. I doubt that is how it would work though. I can see it being useful for presentations, assuming the touch screen acts as a mouse in some way. Most IM and Twitter clients are “all keyboard” and very little in the way of GUI…so such communication programs might pair nicely with a keyboard + small screen…I dunno just trying to keep an open mind.

That does look strange. The specs are nice, but I hate the design. It looks like some mock-up design. Oh, and that looks like a Mac keyboard…

    - wanna quick look at your appointments take a look at the calendar on the 5in screen.
    - Wanna watch a little pron, go ahead.
    - a quick calculator

For everyting else hook up a monitor. May be thats wat Asus is thinking of.

    Have a good day!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Vijay – I agree. A monitor would be the best option.

I have to agree with you, although it could be handy having Google Email you about the version of WordPress your using if your say the webmaster and not actually the one using the blog on a daily basis.

Other than that though I have to agree it does seem like a waste of time as it is placed in the WordPress Dashboard every time you log in.

Nah, I agree with Google on this one no matter how ridonculous it proves to be. You may be a developer but there are more non-techy peeps out there using WordPress. While I applaud your initiative to improve things on your own, some dudes need a swift kick in the ass about things. If this helps, so be it.
