Microsoft Windows Vista - Installing Service Pack #2

As I mentioned last week, Microsoft has made available to TechNet and MSDN members the final release of their Service Pack #2 for Windows Vista. Last Sunday afternoon I installed SP2 on my primary laptop which runs the Home Premium version of Vista and came preinstalled on the computer with SP1, 32 bit.

I made a restore point before starting the install process. When the install starts a windows advises that the installation could take one hour or more and also that the system may reboot several times [KB948465]. Sure enough this is fairly close to what happened. Actually the install took about 40 minutes with one reboot for my system.

Bottom line. Everything went well without incident. For the past sevral days the computer has worked A-OK. I have not noticed any performance differences.

Comments welcome.

Is Microsoft offering a Service Pack 2 CD in the mail for Vista?

I prefer to wait for the official release.

JFK,
Though I haven’t seen any information that a CD will be available, my guess is that it may be download only. Just a guess.

I’ve already got the final release from my Secure Undisclosed Location. :)

Seems basically identical to the Release Candidate except of course it’s not time bombed and doesn’t put that stupid “Evaluation Copy” watermark on your desktop.

They’re trying to silently kill off Windows Vista to make room for Windows 7, not scream “We fixed a bunch of annoying crap, here you go!” :)

That’s why they’re not allowing OEMs to have Vista SP2 til 60 days after Windows 7 is out.
