Dell Sues TigerDirect - Selling Old Boxes As New?

Yipes. I hope this is not true since I buy some of my stuff from TigerDirect, but the allegations from Dell are many. It seems that at one time TigerDirect was a reseller for Dell computers, but was also buying Dell computers from other sources. This is where the lawsuit stems from.
Dell alleges the following:
In an April 17 lawsuit filed by Dell in New York district court, Tiger is accused of - among many other things - selling old and out-of-date Dell computers it purchased from other resellers while claiming they were brand new and shuttled directly from Dell. Tiger was also fingered for telling customers the antique boxes were covered by Dell warranties when the warranties had expired long ago.
Furthermore, the Round Rock PC giant accuses Tiger of using a modified Dell logo on its website that “mimics and bastardizes” the Dell trademark.
The complaint claims Dell’s attempts to contact Tiger with its grievances were partially or completely ignored. In some cases, Dell says, Tiger would partially address a complaint “only to embark on other acts of infringement and false representations virtually immediately thereafter.”
This is the laptop being advertised with the Dell logo without the slanted E:
It should be interesting to see how this plays out. I may be changing vendors if these allegations are true.
Comments welcome.

Dell needs to give up. The Dell computer is distributed worldwide. Why doesnt Dell sue any other company (Oh yea these other companies possibly do not have the revenue that Tiger Direct does)…..

I haven’t used TG in a long time. Newegg is a lot more reliable to me. After tons of complaints from friends and myself they never got any better, so we moved to Newegg and haven’t looked back.

If these allegations are true and TigerDirect has been selling used computers as new then there are more victims than just the Dell reputation.
If you purchased a computer with assurances it was brand new and under warranty, then had a problem and called the manufacturer (Dell) and were told “sorry, your computer is not under warranty any longer”…well, you’d probably be a bit peeved.
I haven’t trusted TigerDirect in years - they intentionally try to minimize phrases like “refurbished” to push sales. As Jeff stated - Newegg is the way to go.

Jeff,
Agreed 1000% with you. http://www.newegg.com is where it’s at. awesome prices, no tax and super fast delivery. I ordered a gaming headset on thursday around 1-2pm EST and it arrived the NEXT DAY with FREE SHIPPING!
TD was always a bit expensive for my taste. Never really did much business with them.

You should already be buying from Newegg, their prices are generally the same or LOWER than Tiger Direct, and Newegg doesn’t do any of the crap mentioned above.

I’m glad to hear that they are sued. They delayed my shipping for about a week, but then as usual, their reps just acted with “don’t care attitude. Not to mention they kept lying to me that my item has been shipped (3 times).
they lied about shipping-checked UPS website-nothing- call them again-they lied again-call UPS-waited a day-called them - then lied again and again. I complained, they don’t care!
Sued!!! This is cool dude
I canceled my item and I’ll never buy from them again
