Apple + Netbook = No Way!

Though some may be getting tired reading about the new Netbooks, there was a recent article over at the Wall Street Journal that rumored that Apple was considering their own Netbook. Today the folks at Apple responded with a big fat NO. Tim Cook who is heading Apple while Steve Jobs is away made the statement crushing all hopes of a pint sized laptop from Apple.
In fact Tim made this statement:
“When I look at netbooks, I see cracked keyboards, terrible software, junky hardware, very small screens. It’s just not a good consumer experience and not something we would put the Mac brand on. It’s a segment we would not choose to play in.”
So according to the Mr. Cook of Apple, it would appear anyone who bought a Netbook bought a piece of junk. Hmm…. Mine is working fine without issue. No cracked keyboard, Unbuntu works fine for what I want to do [surf the Internet and emailing], and the screen size is just fine. I think that some folks are missing what a netbook is used for.
To me it is a light weight computer that I can used when I travel without having to luge around my 17″ 6.5 pound laptop. I can keep up with my blog work and stay in touch with family and friends. When I want to do serious work, like blogging all day looking for stuff to write about, out comes the 6 1/2 pounder.
Netbooks may not be everyone’s cup of tea but they do serve a purpose. Besides, if Apple did come out with a Netbook, none of us could afford it. LOL
Comments welcome.

i read Cook’s comments differently. I think he says that the existing products in the marketplace are crap, and that is a product that Apple will not put their brand into. What he doesn’t rule out, in my opinion he almost implies, is that Apple will reinvent the notebook, a device to compete in the same space, as they similarly invented a device that competes in the mobile phone market.

Why do they let you blog? You should be sentenced to complete BAN off the internet. First off, he was saying that they did not want to put the Mac band name on a Netbook. All YOU do is surf the net. And also Apple does not want to release a computer than can only Surf the net and E-Mail.

Hi nicco,
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts. Maybe Apple can reinvent the netbook. Good point.

What I read Mr Cook saying that Apple would be forced to cut too many corners on quality to deliver a netbook. The lowest possible price is not Apple’s forte. Therefore, Apple will not become a copycat.
This doesn’t that Apple won’t create its own verson of the netbook and steal the market. There were other music players before the iPod, but they became irrelevant as soon as the iTunes Music Store was opened.
I am plugging for a Jumbo iTouch in just smaller than a pocket book size of 6.75″ by 4.25″. A 6.6 inch screen in 16/10 format at a screen resolution of 240 dots per inch would deliver 1344 by 840 pixels in a very acceptable devise (6″ x 3.75″ x .25″) that would fit into a purse or back pocket. It could be an e-reader, personal movie viewer and gameplayer. The important part is that it would only cost about $100 more than the current iTouch. It would borrow Wi-fi access to the web. It wouldn’t cannibalize Apple’s current line.

Current netbooks have as much power, if not more, than older PowerBooks. It’s fun how they are being reviled by everyone interested in selling superpowerful superexpensive products when these little beasties’ more than suffice. And how they avoid mentioning the form-factor convenience and cuteness.
Frankly, Apple could put a bit of its special sauce in the same hardware a Samsung NC10 or an Eee PC uses (or go Ion as soon as it proliferates), price it a bit higher to get its margins, and satisfy the demand for an Apple-branded MacBook Mini so many satisfied hackintoshers have.

Well, no matter what snafu says, the fact remains that high quality is not ONLY apple’s domain. Netbooks are of quite a high quality. Apple dupes its customers by giving a hardware with limited capabilities and so called high qualities. Other than iPod, apple wasnt even a competitior in any field. We get fanboys for different machines, apple fanboys are not better than the rest.
