Are You Frustrated With TV Programs Running Past Their Time Slots?

What is it with the network TV stations running programs past their allocated time slots? On Tuesday evening at least the host of American Idols apologized for going past their time on last weeks program. So what is the big problem? The problem is for those of us who like to record shows while we are away from home, or record something for later viewing.
During the March madness, CBS scheduling sucked. The basketball games ran over their time slot. Heh CBS? Was this a big surprise to you? Sports event sometimes last longer than your goof-ball time scheduling. But what was annoying was that it was about 11 minutes over the allotted time. So they started 60 Minutes 11 past the hour, which threw off all the programs. Than last Sunday these idiots do the same thing with their golf coverage. This time it was 42 minutes over. Again, there was no way to record these events nor the programs that followed.
I have a suggestion. Would it be possible when you see that an event is going past its time slot that you could fill in with some crap I’m sure you have hanging around. How about It’s A Wonderful Life, and play that to fill in until the next hour? You can stop it at any time since everyone in the world knows how it end.
Comments welcome.
PS American Idol still ran over, again!

It started long ago, with the local newscasts going to 11:35pm, or in CBS case, 11:37. Sports really isn’t that important, and should not take that long - there is, after all, ESPN, or the internet for obtaining the latest sports scores. It is silly, and is always made up for in the early hours, where the network newscast is joined late -every single day during the week.
It shows lax behavior of the society as a whole, but more importantly, how the big networks don’t respect the audience.
I always wonder who decides what gets cut out, when these shows get syndicated - because you just know the commercials will not get cut back one iota.

Totally agree with you. I work nights & thank god for my TV tuner card. Sports programming sucks…especially when it blows past its allotted time frame. Fox is the worst!
Personally…the sports program goes past…it gets cut off. CBS did this back about 40 years ago by going to 60 Minutes. They got so many complaints from those watching the game.
The reason the networks will not do the logical thing such as run a “throw-away” program is they have ad revenue tied into whatever programming is coming up. Too bad they will not run an infomercial in that spot.
Heaven knows the networks care about the viewers who record their programming. Many “in the business” believe when you record the show and either remove or go past their commercials…you are stealing from them.

I got so fed up with this as well. Its the shows that do it on purpose that piss me off. It use to piss me off having to go on the net to download the last 5 minutes of a program because of course you never knew this until you reached the end. I finally gave up recording a lot of my shows and just download them to watch now.

Agree about the commercials on American Idol.

I don’t do any recording so it really doesn’t matter. I also don’t watch American Idol. My main entertainment is the BLADE. He is always on time…..

CBS is guilty of doing this EVERY Sunday for about 7 months of the year. Football during the months of September, October, November, December, and January. As you mentioned, college basketball also has this problem during the month of March and part April. Obviously ridiculous.
At any time of the year, I watch the following shows on Sunday:
– football
– college basketball
– 60 Minutes (7pm)
– Amazing Race (8pm)
– Desperate Housewives (9pm)
– The Unit (10pm)
– Brothers and Sisters (10pm)
I have a Dish Network HD DVR and I record The Unit and Brothers and Sisters because my days normally start early. CBS and it lack of responsibility is crazy.
The only real solution to the problem is for CBS to change the day the 60 Minutes is on and have scheduled post-game coverage that is officially scheduled from 7pm - 8pm. If a football or college basketball game goes over the time slot, at least CBS has an extra hour of buffer time. If the game ends on time, then do post-game coverage. Pretty simple fix if you ask me.
