Another Survey - 84% Won’t Upgrade To Windows 7

There is another survey commissioned by a company named  KACE, a Mountain View, Calif., systems management company, that surveyed enterprises concerning their thoughts on upgrading to Windows 7. The survey results of some 1,142 IT Professionals found that the majority of those [ 84% ] indicated they would not be upgrading the first year that Windows 7 hit the street. Though Windows 7 has received positive reviews by beta testes, some 50% were even considering dumping Windows for Apple.

According to a news article from Fortune, it also stated that:

Among the survey’s other findings:

  • 53% of those who will upgrade to Windows 7 say that they are doing so primarily to avoid Windows Vista
  • 67% state concerns about Windows 7, with 88% of those worried about software compatibility
  • 83% will skip Vista and migrate directly to Windows 7
  • 72% are more concerned about upgrading to Windows 7 than staying on Windows XP
  • 14% have already switched or started the process of switching operating systems (up from 11% in    2008)

Which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering the current economic climate. It may be some time before Windows 7 becomes the prominent OS for businesses.

I personally believe that consumers well flock to Windows 7 and bypass Vista if possible. I’m already looking at upgrading my laptop to Windows 7 when it is released.

What about you?

I upgraded a long time ago - to Mac OS X.

If it cuts down on the bloatware then I am all for it. I don’t like the new task bar though.

I’m currently running the beta on my laptop. I’ll be installing the release code on my laptop (the beta is creaking for me at this point, things that used to work, don’t, and I think a new install (with RC) will do wonders), and when the RTM is available on Technet, I’ll have that downloaded, burned to DVD, and then installed an a new hard drive that will go into the laptop.

And then I’ll reinstall my desktop with Windows 7 (I’m tired of running Windows 2003 as a workstation and all that goes along with trying to make some software work, the other 2003 workstation is going to get upgraded to 2008 as a workstation for fun…) That’s after I see how 64-bit goes on the laptop. I may upgrade the desktop with a few more gigs and go 64-bit there as well. Which also means upgrading the PS since it is just about maxed out, and I want to put more disks on it.

The wife is still too happy with her XP Home that I can’t bother her for upgrading (and I’d rather she be running Pro, but she won’t even entertain that!).

The son’s Vista laptop may very well get upgraded as well. Then again, he won’t let me have it long enough to put the printer as a network printer so he doesn’t have to unplug and plug in the printer (which causes me some pain as well…).

I have used XP for years, and would stick with Mac Leopard, but need XP to run Dreamweaver 8, which cannot run properly on Mac.

Maybe the new Parallels is working on Mac better now; in which case I will move to Mac 100%. The rest of my family are all on Mac and have no issues at all.

I work computers hard, so will never put Vista on any of my PCs. Windows 7 maybe better than Vista (Millinium Edition 2), but would rather go Linux than stick with Microsoft, if they cannot get out of this mess they are in.

my XP computers are extremely high specked and tweaked, and use Ghost regularly, which keeps it going well. Otherwise I wish I could use Mac permanantly.

Mac

what’s the fuss about windows? I’ve always used a mac. I stay away from anything microsoft as much as possible. I’m still mesmerized by the popularity of such mediocrity. but there are some people, they’d rather brave hell than switch. You know some people love pain. and there are people who make tons of money catering to the needs of people who love pain.

What Do You Think?
