Windows 7 - You Can Downgrade to Vista and Even XP

Microsoft is confirming that users will have the downgrade rights to install either Windows Vista or Windows XP if they are using the future Windows 7. The confirmation came directly from a Microsoft representative when asked about the downgrade rights associated with Windows 7. Which is surprising since Microsoft usually only allows downgrade rights to only one version back. But because so many businesses still need Windows XP because of software compatibility issues, and also hardware issues, two versions back will be included for the first time.

Interesting. Interesting because the conspiracy theorists will jump on this proving that both Vista and Windows 7 are failures. Failures because Microsoft still needs to allow businesses to go all the back to Windows XP. But is this true or not?

I believe the reality is that because of the economy there are going to be many companies that can not afford to upgrade to Vista or Windows 7 that may require a hardware upgrade as well. Add to this the added cost of upgrading existing software and the cost is extremely high. As I stated in another article, I seriously doubt that employees care which OS they are using as long as they have a job to go to.

I disagree.

Well, I don’t think its as much a conspiracy but more of an insurance to make people buy it. After Vista, most people have gotten wary of Windows products, and the similar appearance of Windows 7 to Vista might turn buyers off from it.

With the option of going back to your previous OS, its like the “Or your money back!” situation, but rather replace the ‘money’ part with OS.

I think it’s a pretty good idea overall, but does this mean that people installing Windows 7 on a new system will be able to go to XP without really having buying it?

It seems a like a fairly simple concept but as we have all come to understand over the years, nothing is ever what it seems with windows! Bare in mind that vista had just hit the shelves and work for windows 7 was already under way, almost like they released vista as a prototype. It has been said that 7 will leave vista for dust, but personally, running vista ultimate, i think that everything is a lot more simpler to run in xp.

Im not ruling out this option to be a bad thing, but i guess that it will be interesting to see how the different companies worldwise will utilize these options!

(Failing that, we’ll all just go open source and start packing Ubuntu!!!!!!!!!)

What Do You Think?
