Block Ads In Google Chrome
As I continue to write about Google’s Chrome browser, and as I continue to use the browser in order to provide a complete review of how good or not so good Chrome is, I miss AdBlock Plus for Firefox. Last week there was a comment to an article asking if Google would provide a similar extension. I stated I didn’t believe they would since Google makes their money from there advertisments.
So today as I notice a slew of ads on sites I visited, I surfed the Internet to see what if anything could be done. I ran into an article by STEVEN PRATT – THE OUTSOURCING INSIDER, in which he provided a detailed way to use a proxy to block the ads in Chrome.
In involves using Privoxy for Windows and following Steve’s instruction, I had the proxy in place in less than 5 minutes. It was simple to setup. Ads are now gone when using Chrome. But hold on boys and girls. The ads were also gone from Internet Explorer.
I would venture a guess that the ads would be gone in Opera as well. I removed AdBlock Plus from Firefox, setup the proxy and the ads were gone once again.
Comments welcome.

I think, especially in this modern era, that all browsers should be expected to have at least some sort of pop up/advertisement blocker.
I’m surprised I haven’t heard anything similar to this from other people.

I don’t think using proxy to block ads is good solution.
it should allows users the option what to block and what to allow. After all, ads to provide some color in some pages. we ought to know what’s goin on (promos, offers, etc)…
i still think firefox adblock ext is better solution

General public are not bothered by advertisements than the ” INTERNET machines ” people who are just into internet to be like this and that.
Students, teachers, workers, entertainment seekers they just want to complete their work.
That’s why developer of major browsers want to cash on their advertisers. As the need for Proper intelligent browser grows things will change. As you can see in K-meleon an BLOCK ADVERTISEMENT option.
Others browsers will cash on. Another thing, Google Chrome will soon open up it’s API for the developer and when that happens, a lot of people would cash in.
The market is open for developers internet developers.

well i am a loyal opera user, and truly speaking opera’s some features like in built ad block, creating search engine, tab restoration from trash are amazing. I don;t like chrome, rather i use portable Iron. Iron offers a .ini file to block ad. iron is based on Google’s open Chromium project.
