Is IE 8 Faster Than Firefox and Chrome ?
Internet Explorer 8 is faster than both Firefox and Chrome. Who is making this wild claim? None other than our friends at Microsoft. They are stating that the chart below proves that IE 8 is the fastest on the planet.
You may notice that some speeds that are listed show some of the differences in speed measured in the 1/100th of a second. Impressive!
You can download the full report in .pdf format at the source linked below. The title of the report is:
Measuring Browser Performance: Understanding issues in benchmarking and performance analysis.
Comments welcome.
PS What is really the fastest and best browser in the entire world? It is the one that you have decided to use. No measurements are necessary. LOL

notice how Safari isn’t included in this list. Did you really think you could get that past me, Microsoft. Think again.
Safari 4 is the undisputed speed king!

From my experience, IE 8 and Firefox 3 are a close match for performance. However, I never trust Microsoft’s allegations that their software is better. Of course they are going to claim this. They’ve been known for skewing results or for hiring one of their own partners to do the research on all sorts of subjects. If you’re interesting on comparing IE and Firefox, look for everyday users or independent parties making the claims. Personally, I use Firefox 3 on Linux. Why? Because I don’t have to worry about security exploits. I’ve been burned by IE many times in the past due to exploits by simply viewing a website. I’m done with it.

Who cares if it’s faster? It’s a sucky browser. Firefox still beats anything hands down as the most customizable browser ever. I can add the add ons I find useful. The only reason I still have IE at all is that it’s only the browser you can download Windows updates with. But that’ll change once I have a Linux OS downloaded and configured. *Smirk*

Get rid of IE altogether by installing the IE Tab extension for Firefox : ) And boom, you’re done

I allege that Microsoft is smoking crack.
Anyone who uses any other modern browser for more than 3 seconds will know that IE is a turtle.

I hate to say it, I’ve been a huge supporter of Firefox since the Phoenix and Firebird days, but IE 8 is much faster than Firefox 3.

As much as I’d like to have IE as my main browser, there’s no way it’s faster than Firefox 3 or Chrome and that’s from browsing experience. It just FEELS so bulky and slow, the new tabs open too slow and it could certainly use addons like Firefox. Then again, Chrome would REALLY need addons, cause as it is, it just can’t compete when you need to do something other than browsing here and there (downloading flash, browser intergrated feeds, downloading files in general etc.)

Firefox takes forever to boot up. I have fasterfox add-on in my firefox 3.011 , but it is stil slower than I E 8. Chrome is a little faster than I E 8. However, I feel that because it lacks a send to E-mail link , it is only good as a back-up browser. If chrome had a SEND link, I would probably make it my default browser. Bottom line : As much as I want to be a firefox loyalist; It is just too sluggish. I am seeing the little hour glass way to often and my CPU is maxed out at 100% way more often with firefox7.

I am constant user of Firefox (3.5.3) but recently had a shock when I tired IE8! Its was really FASTER than both Chrome and Firefox !!! Microsoft might have improved IE8 recently since for a couple of months back, the story was different !

I am a avid firefox user and will admit that IE8 is at least visually faster and starts than firefox 3.5.5, ESPECIALLY IN WINDOWS 7.

I’m not finding IE8 to be even close to Firefox 3.5.5 in speed, at least in Windows 7. It takes me about 2 to 3 secs in Firefox to load a page and about 4 seconds in IE. I decided to give the “netbook” thing a try and was this close to returning it because I was dissatisfied with the internet speed. Something told me to install Firefox to see if that would help and it has. I will keep the netbook now because I now realize the problem was IE and not the hardware.
