What I don't understand is that they make several versions of 1 product. Heck, improve Live to its full potential, it still lacks a lot of stuff. What makes them think that a new name "Kumo" would be any different?

I think Microsoft search has a positioning problem from the very beginning. Google has that leadership position as a search technology specialist. Yahoo search is riding on the popularity of Yahoo portal. MSN portal / search couldnt capture the imagination of internet generation. Either Microsoft couldnt gear itself to the internet paradigm or it saw that in the long run Internet could fizzle out ( as it burst once ). Or even it may be that Microsoft is secretly hoping that internet will die. Internet is the primary source of openSource technologies, file sharing communities and software piracy. This business model is quite different to the what IT majors are famliar with.
Anyway, good luck to Microsoft with its new search engine.
