Google Gmail Down – World Collaspes!

The sky is falling! Google Gmail servers were down for a few hours. After reading some of the blog reports concerning what happened, Google having issues was a great catastrophe. Over at the Google blog they reported the following:

If you’ve tried to access your Gmail account today, you are probably aware by now that we’re having some problems. Shortly after 10 9:30am GMT our monitoring systems alerted us that Gmail consumer and businesses accounts worldwide could not get access to their email.

We’re working very hard to solve the problem and we’re really sorry for the inconvenience. Those users in the US and UK who have enabled Gmail offline through Gmail Labs should be able to access their inbox, although they won’t be able to send or receive emails.

It seems to me that people want to believe that Google is infallible. Though Google may be the king of search. their equipment is man made and their technicians are human.

    It just goes to show no matter how big a corporation is or how indestructable their servers may seem, everyone will have errors and downtime.

    Not surprised. It is impossible for any company to have 100% uptime. I use gmail daily, but a couple hours a downtime will not kill me.

    Ouch! I personally don’t use free email providers as I have my own servers and domain names, but they have tons of members using Google Mail and yes, that is a catastrophe!

    Hey, gmail has been down for last 3 – 6 hours again, March 15, 2009. Hope it’s not just my machine, but it was working earlier today. Any official word from Googledom?

    Hi Dana,
    There is no report of at outage on Google’s site. Mine was working OK all day and evening of the 15th.

    However, this does not mean it is your box. How is Gmail working today? Any error messages?

    I found your website this morning, because I searched for google server downtime, since I cannot seem to access any Google services. Wonder if its the case though, of if my internet service provider is having problems. Any chance you can check if you can access google?
