Atlantis Finding Discounted By Google

Posted by on Feb 20, 2009 | 6 Comments

Oh the excitement of it all. The Telegraph had previously reported that the lost city of Atlantis may have been found and shown pictures below to confirm the finding. It seems that using Google Ocean undersea data appeared to show what some said were the outlines of a city. Google says nope.

What the lines represent are according to Google are:

“In this case, however, what users are seeing is an artifact of the data collection process. Bathymetric (or sea floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea floor. The lines reflect the path of the boat as it gathers the data.”

Darn. I was hoping, and so were others, that this really could have been the lost city of Atlantis found by Google Ocean. But is Google telling us the truth?  LOL

Comments welcome.

Ok, then show me some more instances of “lines reflecting the path of the boat as it gathers the data.”
